Description of the walk

Park after the Palogneux town hall, at Montée Saint-Pierre.

(S/E) Take Chemin Lachanal, which runs below the church. Follow the sign for the basalt columns, cross the hamlet of La Chanal and reach the next crossroads. Walk a few metres to the right and arrive at the Croix Trioux junction.

(1) Carry on straight ahead (Chemin de la Croix Trioux) and reach the hamlet of Ladret by taking the path that runs above the houses.

(2) Once you’ve passed the hamlet, turn left and then onto the footpath that follows the road. Then turn left to reach the Puy de Chavanne.

(3) Follow the same route but in the opposite direction to return to the Croix Trioux crossroads.

(1) Take the track on the right, which runs almost straight along the edge of the fields, and continue to a multi-way junction at the entrance to the Bois du Grand Val.

(4) Continue to the right along the main dirt track. At the next junction, turn 180° to the left onto the path marked by a blue arrow. After numerous hairpin bends, you’ll reach the waterfalls.

(5) Follow the sign for ‘Retour Village’ downhill and, at the bottom of the descent, you’ll emerge into a small clearing. Here you’ll find a road.

(6) Take this road and, a few metres further on, you’ll reach the junction withthe GR®89just before the hamlet of Ligeay.

(7) Carry on straight ahead, pass through Ligeay keeping to the left at each fork, and arrive at a side street, Rue de la Pierre Grète.

(8) Turn left and follow the sign for the waterfall trail. Cross the bridge and follow the Ruisseau le Dardannet and its many small waterfalls. Cross the various bridges, then climb the steps and cross one final bridge to reach the Grande Cascade.

(9) Retrace your steps along the same route until you reach the junction with Ligeay and theGR® path you passed earlier.

(7) Continue left onto theGR® trail, following the red and white markings.

(10) At the next fork, at the edge of the meadow, head left then quickly right through the woodland until you reach a multi-way junction.

(11) Continue along thesecond path on the left, heading south-east, and ignore the two paths branching off to the right. At the bottom of the slope, you’ll reach the Ruisseau de la Goutte de la Sagne, which is a peatland area.

(12) Carry on until you reach a road (D55).

(13) Follow it to the right, then, a few metres past the ‘end of built-up area’ sign, take the Chemin de la Madone downhill to the left. Continue along the path, the Chemins des Grands Champs, and follow it to the end at the crossroads in the hamlet of Les Genettes.

(14) Leave theGR® here and turn right uphill (Chemin des Pins Boulange). Enter a woodland and come to a three-way junction.

(15) Keep left here and at the next junction, and reach the left bank of the Ruisseau de la Goutte Crémière.

(16) Follow this bank, then cross to the right bank, zigzagging uphill; ignore a path branching off to the left and emerge onto the tarmac road (Route des Épeurios).

(17) Turn right onto this road and, following an almost flat path, reach the hamlet of Plégneux. Cross the D55 (Route de Ladret) and take the road opposite (Montée Saint-Pierre) towards Lachanal, returning to the car park next to the town hall (S/E).

Notes

Between (8) and (9): Take care on the waterfall route as there are two tree trunks on the path.
(9) La Grande Cascade: experienced walkers may continue beyond the ‘fitness trail’ sign, but the route is not recommended for children or dogs as it is slippery and vertiginous.

We went hiking on a beautiful day in early March and didn't see a soul!
With lots of intersecting paths, the app is a valuable aid!
A pleasant hike.

A lovely walk; some of the paths were very, very wet after the recent rain.
There were a few tarmac roads, but it didn’t matter as there were hardly any vehicles about.
The waterfalls are magnificent – perfect for taking some lovely photos.
We met a few locals who were very friendly.
There was a slightly steep forest track towards the end of the route, but nothing too difficult.
Thanks to the author for this lovely walk.
