Description of the walk

Park at the bottom of Chalmazel, in the locality known as Le Pont.

(S/E) From Le Pont, head towards the sawmill, due north, then take the uphill path no. 8, marked in yellow and white. Pass the calvary, then leave the no. 8 trail, continue straight ahead alongside a farm, then turn right onto the Route de la Combe.

(1) Take the path on the left going uphill alongside the Écogîte la Saboterie, heading towards Le Trêve. Cross the road, continue straight ahead on a grassy path and rejoin the road until you reach Pré Martin.

(2) Take the path on the left marked No. 8, which climbs through a deciduous forest.

(3) At the end of a large meadow, continue straight ahead on a path entering the pine forest, with a water tower on your left. Further on, take a wide forest track on the left.

(4) At the crossroads, signposted no. 23, turn left.

(5) Continue along this downhill track, passing the Virgin of Olme 200 metres further on.

(6) At the road, continue to the left.

(7) Before the hamlet of Les Pinasses, turn right onto the dirt track and continue for about 600 m.
30 m before the first chalet (on your right), turn left onto a path that is not very visible at first.

Continue along this stony path, crossed by streams, pass a footbridge and continue overlooking the Lachet river until you reach the D 6.3.

(8) Turn right onto the road, then after 300 metres at the kilometre marker, enter the pine forest on the left onto a wooded path running alongside the river. Cross the footbridge, following the signs for No. 8 for 80 metres, then turn right.

(9) At the crossroads, continue on the left-hand path marked with signpost no. 6.
Pass the hamlet of Grossat, then continue for 900 m along a good dirt track. At elevation 992, turn right and descend.

(10) At La Vialle, after passing a house with wine-coloured shutters (elevation 940), turn right onto a dirt track leading down to the river, cross the footbridge and continue for over 2 km.

(11) At a right-hand bend, leave the dirt track on the left and enter a deciduous forest. Take a downhill path marked No. 5.
Very soon after starting the descent, turn left at a marker on a tree with a green arrow. Then follow the river on your left until you reach the D101 road.

(12) Turn left, cross the bridge and immediately turn right. Pass the sawmill and continue along path marked No. 5.

(13) At the crossroads, turn left and follow the signs. There is a steep climb to reach the Vierge du Chatelard statue alongside the D6.

(14) Open and close the cattle gate, continue along the path down towards the river, then the stadium. Cross the stadium, heading between the football pitch and the tennis court, cross the footbridge and head towards the bridge (S/E).

A pleasant route with no particular difficulties apart from one or two changes of direction, so stay alert with the map in front of you...

Beautiful route. It was a bit chilly but sunny. A few tricky sections due to a temporary diversion of a stream on the path following forestry work. You can easily get around this by going through the woods.
Start slowly, as the slope is constant from the outset.
Very nice view of the Forez.
Thank you.

Route taken in June in good weather, partly through forest, this is the blueberry trail (not yet ripe), there are blueberries everywhere... no big elevation changes, this trail is very pleasant, ideal for families, for example. However, if you take the small paths not described in the guidebook, it can be tricky, as they are not very visible and the forestry work, with all the debris left on the ground, does not help.

A beautiful walk in the woods and along the river that joins the Lignon de Chalmazel; well marked; lovely view from the rock, you can see Lake Villerest if we're not mistaken.

Hello,
there are a few inaccuracies regarding this route. For example, we walked 18 km, not 16 km.
This may also be because it is the first time we have used Visorando. We are used to following other routes.
At point 3, is it not the first stony path on the left but a wide forest track quite a distance away that we should follow?
At point 9, we did not reach an altitude of 992 metres.
At point 10, we didn't find a house with wine-coloured shutters, but rather pink ones.
Otherwise, it was a beautiful hike and we thank the designer.

Thank you,
Christelle
