Walk starting from the Resistance Monument in Écot

A short walk of almost 8 km starting from the Resistance Monument in Écot. We begin by following a narrow path through the woods, then a wider path downhill. A very short stretch on the road, then back into the woods via a much more secluded path: be careful, it climbs a bit!

Description of the walk

Park in the car park by the monument.

(S/E) Head towards it, then turn right onto the path.

(1) Carry on straight ahead, ignoring the path on the left (which will be your return route), until you reach a wider path with a cross. Turn right and go straight on until you reach another cross-path.

(2) Turn left. Stay on this path, which curves sharply to the left, passing under a power line twice. Further on, take the hairpin bend to the right and follow the path down the Combe de Warembourg to a Fork in the road.

(3) Keep to the right and reach a second Fork in the road about 150 m further on. Turn left and take the left-hand bend immediately after towards the electricity substation. Ignore the path on the left that heads back towards the Combe de Warembourg and continue for a few metres.

(4) Take the dirt track on the left which heads back into the woods

(5) Follow the path, which continues to climb straight ahead, then veers left and levels out before starting to descend as it approaches the road.

(6) Before reaching it, take a small path on the left that descends slightly, marked with red and white signs.

(1) Take the path on the right to return to the monument and then to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Follow the yellow markings, then the white and red ones. Everything is generally well signposted. Thefirst part follows a fairly wide path that goes downhill, but the return route is a much steeper uphill path that may be slippery towards the end. If you have walking poles, don’t hesitate to take them if it has rained recently!
Maximum gradient: 14% (but not for very long!), minimum 8%.

A fairly easy walk on a sunny afternoon. The paths weren’t muddy, even though there’s a lot of logging going on at the moment.

Throughout the first section, up to the Warrembourg valley, the markings are now yellow and blue. There is an inaccuracy at the exit of the Warrembourg valley: an unnecessary detour to the right for about 100 metres, only to cut across to the left afterwards and take a steep slope that leads onto the road – a road one could simply have followed 100 metres earlier by heading up to the left to avoid this unnecessary detour. After the fairly steep climb through the woods, once you reach the ridge, the markings change to red

An interesting route with some excellent views. A real breath of fresh air. The signposting for the section through the village of Ecot is a bit poor. Overall, a satisfactory experience.
