Description of the walk

Parking near the water tower or football pitch.

(S/E) Head west along theGR® du Pays de Montbéliard (yellow and red markings).

(1) At the crossroads, leave the path on your right (which will be your return route) and head straight on.

(2) Stop to admire the view stretching from Lomont on the left to the foothills of the Vosges on the right. On a clear day, you can see a large number of wind turbines. Then begin the descent towards Villars-sous-Écot, a stony but very shaded path. Continue straight on to the village centre.

(3) Near the fountain, leave theGR® and turn right onto the D265, heading towards Colombier-Fontaine.

(4) On leaving the village, leave the D265 and take the path on the right. You’ll pass under the motorway, which can provide some welcome shade on a hot day.

(5) Along the path running parallel to the motorway, if the vegetation allows, you can see a large part of the motocross track. Continue to the D123.

(6) Turn right towards Écot and cross over the motorway.

(7) Leave the D123 by taking the track on the right.

(8) Turn left, then continue straight on to rejoin the D123.

(9) Follow it to the right for about twenty metres, then turn right onto Rue de la Courberaie. Ignore the two dead-ends on the left.

(1) Turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

A route completed on a beautiful, dry day. Not bad for a change of scenery. It's a shame there's a bit of road, but it's not too busy.

It was described well; we were looking for a route away from the undergrowth so we could enjoy the open spaces and avoid walking through mud after weeks of rain. Mission accomplished: dry feet and sunshine on our faces. It’s true, though, that it runs alongside the motorway for a stretch, and that part isn’t great, but it was mentioned in the description so there were no surprises.
It might be worth extending it slightly so that you only have to ‘cross the motorway’ twice instead of walking alongside it.

A lovely route on a sunny Saturday, offering magnificent views of Lomont. Although the stretch alongside the motorway might remind us of everyday life, this does not detract from the route, which features a fair bit of elevation gain and varied scenery all the way.

For more than half the route, the 13 walkers accompanying me complained about the noise from the motorway. Even though the sun was shining and the views were lovely, the consensus was unanimous: it felt more like we were in a daily hell than out on a leisurely stroll. We were also unanimous on one thing: we won’t be going back there.

This morning, in the rain, our Monday group completed this route. A good 9km route. However, the section along the motorway isn’t pleasant as it’s too noisy. The paths were clean despite the rain. That makes up for the noise.

A lovely walk, especially from the start to marker 4, with some beautiful scenery. No problems with the signposting.

Hello,

The route description was rather vague, so we weren’t able to complete the hike

Is the description to blame? Or is it a lack of practice in reading and following a description, or perhaps in reading a map or matching the map to the terrain?

If so, please feel free to suggest ways to improve it.

See you soon

The walk wasn’t very well signposted, so we couldn’t do it
