Park at the Leclerc Centre car park in Carentan.
(S/E) Head towards the Romanesque church of Saint-Hilaire-Petitville.
(1) Cross the Route d’Isigny. Turn left onto Rue du Pont, which crosses over the River Taute.
(2) At the end of the bridge, turn right into Rue du Canal de Jonction. Walk past the swimming pool.
(3) Turn right at the harbour towards the harbour master’s office. Then head towards the lock, following the floating dock. You will cross the RN13 canal bridge, which opened on 6 June 1994. The canal bridge carries the N13 dual carriageway (connecting Caen to Cherbourg) under the Carentan-à-la-Mer Canal.
Head towards the sea access lock for boats from the port of Carentan.
(4) At the lock, two rivers join to form the channel leading to the sea. Cross the lock and head back towards Carentan on the other side of the port. You will see the racecourse on the right, then the campsite.
(5) Turn left to follow Quai de Caligny, pass by the swimming pool again and follow Rue Sivard de Beaulieu, which runs past the secondary school and its palm grove. Turn right into Rue Fleureuse, go round a roundabout and reach the 11th-century Romanesque church of Carentan, which was destroyed in 1443 and rebuilt in the Gothic style.
(6) Walk around it and join Avenue Qui Qu’en Grogne, then turn into Rue Notre-Dame and arrive at Place Vauban.
(7) Cross the square, then take a detour via Place de la République and its medieval arcades. Take Rue du Château, Rue Torteron, Rue de l’Isle and Rue Giesmard.
(2) Cross the bridges over the Taute, turn right then left to reach the car park (S/E).
