Around the feudal castle of Moha

The feudal castle of Moha is one of the region's jewels. It is located at the top of a rocky spur on the heights of the Mehaigne, on the edge of the limestone quarries (both old and still in operation), and was apparently built in several phases between the 11th and 14th centuries. Archaeological excavations have revealed a much older presence.

Description of the walk

This circular has two completely different aspects, divided more or less equally:

  • the southern part is hilly and offers some beautiful views of the Mehaigne; this is also where the old medieval castle of Moha and two beautiful castle farms are located.
  • The northern part is mainly on the Hesbaye agricultural plateau: depending on the season, you can see fodder or sugar beet, carrots, cereals (wheat, corn, etc.), beans, flax, potatoes and most likely a few other crops.

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 109 m - N652, under the Huccorgne viaduct
  2. 1 : km 2.81 - alt. 100 m - Château féodal de Moha
  3. S/E : km 16.16 - alt. 109 m - N652, under the Huccorgne viaduct

Notes

It should be noted that the route crosses the Wallonia motorway twice, the first time under the Huccorgne viaduct, where noise is very limited, and the second time on a bridge intended solely for agricultural convoys, where there is 1 km of noise pollution, approximately 500 m on either side.
