The starting point is at Saint-Vaast Church in Moncheaux. There is a small car park where you can park.
(S/E) From the church, head north along Rue de Thumeries (D8). Walk on the right-hand pavement, which is more convenient. There is a housing estate on the right called Résidence de la Clorière.
(1) After this housing estate, take the path on the right that runs alongside the Route de Thumeries (do not turn right towards the fields). You are now on the Voie Verte. You can see Mons-en-Pévèle on the right (beautiful rapeseed fields in spring). Cross Rue de l'Olizier and continue along the path.
(3) When you reach Rue Joseph Beghin, turn right and then take thefirst path on the left, which will take you back to the D8. Cross it and enter the Phalempin Forest.
(3) After 30 metres, just after a barrier, turn left onto a narrower path in the middle of the woods. Follow this shaded path which runs alongside and around the Thumeries golf course.
(4) Turn right onto Rue du Boutonnain. You are now on the border between Nord (59) and Pas-de-Calais (62). Follow this street, which then becomes a path through the fields. You will have a beautiful view of the high-voltage power line.
(5) When you reach the intersection, turn left. You are now on the Boucle des Trois Cavaliers route heading towards the Leforest lake. You will arrive at Rue Séraphin Cordier. Turn left twice and enter the park at the foot of Leforest slag heap 122. If you wish, you can climb this slag heap, or continue if a climb of about 40 metres puts you off.
(6) There are about two hundred steps to reach the top of the slag heap, which rises to a height of 84 metres. From the top of the slag heap, you have a 360° view of the surrounding area, including several other slag heaps in the region.
(7) Descend the slag heap via the same route and take the path to the left. Cross Rue Séraphin Cordier. You will pass through the middle of the old mining town. Cross Rue des Landes. Continue along the small road and turn right at the garage. Follow Rue de Cayeux to the roundabout.
(8) Cross and walk along the cemetery on Rue de la Potrie. Take a short stretch (20 m) of Rue Florent Evrard, then cross it to reach the path opposite. Continue along this path until you reach the fork at the lake.
(9) Continue straight ahead to reach the lake. You can walk around it. There are benches where you can take a pleasant break.
(10) Head back towards the fork.
(9) Turn right towards the miners' houses called "camus". Follow Rue de Mauriac and turn right onto Rue Pleaux.
(11) Turn left onto Rue du Planty. After about 300 metres, turn right onto Chemin de Leforest (CR1). Follow this road for 1 kilometre until you reach Rue Joliot Curie, then continue to the intersection with the greenway (GR® 121B).
(12) Turn left, then follow the greenway for 2 km until you reach Rue de Moncheaux, where you can admire the weeping sophora tree.
(13) Walk up Rue de Moncheaux towards the church (S/E).
