Around Wasnes-au-Bac

Park in the car park next to the church.

(S/E) Face Rue du Docteur Calmette, turn left, then immediately left again onto Rue Jean Moulin. At the end of this road, turn right onto Route de Marquette, ignore Rue des Alouettes and follow this road to Les Écuries du Moulin.

(1) At the first crossroads, take the road on the right, then turn left onto Chemin de la Glissière. At the next intersection, turn left onto Rue de Wavrechain-sous-Faulx, ignore the path on the left and pass in front of the farm.

(2) At the crossroads, turn left onto Rue Nicolas Galliez. At the end, turn right onto Rue Victor Hugo. At the intersection with Rue Pasteur, turn left towards the town hall and the post office.

(3) Just before you reach the square, turn right onto Rue Danton. At the intersection with Rue Gabriel Péri, cross the road and follow Ruelle Sainte-Croix. Pass through the Résidence des Chauffours, ignoring the street on your right, and you will come out onto Rue Jean-Baptiste Canonne.

(4) Turn left, then take the small path behind the calvary on your left until you reach Rue Roger Salengro. On this street, turn left, then a few dozen metres further on, turn right to reach the Nicolas Miens stadium and the gymnasium. Pass the Domaine des Bûchons on your right and join Rue Émile Zola.

(5) Turn right until you reach the crossroads, then turn left onto Chemin de Valenciennes. Continue along this road to the left and turn into Rue du Château de Lewarde (Marcq-en-Ostrevant) until you cross Rue du Maréchal Foch.

(6) Turn right, then at the roundabout, keep left on Rue du Square. Next, take Rue Hubert Moniez on the left. At the next crossroads, take Rue de Féchain on the right, cross the last housing estate, then turn left onto a path through the fields. At the end, turn right.

(7) At the crossroads, turn right and continue to the roundabout on the D402.

(8) Cross the D148a, continue on Rue Jules Domise (Féchain) and ignore the path that branches off to the right.

(9) At the intersection with Rue de l'Égalité, turn right, then turn left into Ruelle du Cimetière. Cross Rue Hubert Raout and continue straight ahead towards the community centre. Then turn left onto Rue François Bacquet to join Rue Louis Chantreau.

(10) Turn right to reach Place du Général de Gaulle, veer slightly left, then turn left onto Rue Hubert Volkcrick and cross the bridge over the Sensée.

(11) Take Rue du Marais on the left, go to the end and cross the Sensée again.

(12) Continue along Allée des Bouleaux on the right, following the river.

(13) At the bridge, continue straight ahead on Rue du Marais, then keep left.

(14) Turn right to cross the Canal de la Sensée via the footbridge, cross the towpath and continue straight ahead. Go around the Saint-Géry church on the left, then, at the intersection with Rue du Général de Gaulle, turn left, then left into Impasse des Mouettes to return to the towpath.

(15) Turn right and follow the canal. As you approach the bridge, turn right onto the path leading to the D49. At the intersection, turn left, keeping to the side of the road. Cross the Paillencourt bridge, follow Rue du Pont Rade in Wasnes-au-Bac and continue straight ahead until the first intersection.

(16) Turn right, then left to cross the Résidence du Bois and join Rue du Docteur Calmette. Turn right, cross at the pedestrian crossing in front of the town hall and follow Rue du Fossé de la Ville. At the crossroads, turn right into the cul-de-sac, continue along the road until you reach the cemetery, turn right, go around the church and you will find the car park. ( S/E)

The route is not difficult but is not signposted. The terrain is earth, grass, cobblestones, pebbles and tarmac. Wear suitable footwear.
