Around Chenet Beach

The route starts at Chenet Beach. Blue signposts.

(S/E) Leave the playground on the banks of the Creuse at the mill. Head back up into the village and take the first road on the left.
After the village, at the first bend to the left, take the path that climbs up to the right of the road (directly in front of you). The path leads to the hamlet of “La Petite Barre”, where it becomes tarmac.
At the first junction, follow the road to the right, then take the first path on the left. The path continues to climb gently, then, after a bend to the left, climbs a little more steeply.

(1) At the first junction, turn onto the path on the left and head back towards La Grande Barre.

(2) In the hamlet, take the road on the right and return to the D913. Cross it and continue along the track that climbs opposite. At the end of the track, turn right, then take the first track on the left. Look for a path on the right that isn’t shown on the IGN map.

(3) Take the path that leads down. Caution: the path is wet.
The only difficult part of the route is crossing the Ris stream via a stone ford. Follow the path straight ahead back up the hill.

(4) In Villarnoux, the walk continues along the road to the left (D54).

(5) In front of the railway line, take the road on the right. It runs above the railway line and then descends, on the right, towards the hamlet of Auvergne.

(6) Carry on to the right, then, as you leave the hamlet, leave the road and turn right onto a road that quickly turns into a track at the entrance to a large house. Continue along the track which leads to the D913 at the entrance to Le Multon. Follow the road to the right. Cross it a little further on, then take the road on the left towards Le Menoux until you reach the inverted Y-junction.

(7) Take the hairpin bend onto the small road that descends to the right and leads back to the starting point (S/E).

You can avoid it by continuing straight on and rejoining the road. Take the road on the right and cross the stream. At the next junction, continue straight on and follow the railway line to rejoin the route at (5).
Allow an extra 1 km.

In Villarnoux ((4)), before continuing the walk, take a detour to the chapel and the small adjoining garden to enjoy the view over the Creuse valley (view of Argenton-sur-Creuse, Saint-Marcel, etc.).
