Description of the walk

Access: To reach the start of the walk, take the D44 from Malemort (the roundabout after the McDonald’s) towards Sainte-Féréole. Pass through Sainte-Féréole and continue for 14km until you reach a large roundabout in Saint-Germain-les-Vergnes; continue straight on towards Seilhac. 50 metres after this roundabout, turn right, following the signs for the riding club “Les Poneys de Charlotte” and “Étang de Lachamp”. Follow a small road to the large car park by the lake.

(S/E) Walk up from the car park to the stables of the riding centre, heading up to your right. After the stables, continue straight ahead along the wide path that runs alongside the lake on the left.
About 500m further on, you’ll find three wooden picnic tables. Continue along this shaded path for another 500m or so and you’ll notice, on the right, a crossing over the lake via a small concrete bridge and a strip of land between two arms of the pond.

(1) Do not take this crossing but continue for a short distance until you find a wooden jetty on the right that crosses the end of the pond. At the end of the jetty, turn right to follow the pond, keeping to the left

(2) Continue to the junction with a wide path, then turn right. The path moves slightly away from the pond into the undergrowth.

(3) 200m further on, turn right, leaving the yellow markings, to return to the edge of the pond. You’ll find a lovely wooden jetty where you can enjoy the sunshine.
Complete the walk around the pond by crossing the stone dam and returning to the start point towards the stables and the car park (S/E).

Very pleasant, very shady, very peaceful; just a few anglers at work and four walkers we came across. It was a Monday morning.

A very pleasant walk around the pond, with plenty of shade; it’s a shame to see cars parked there despite the ban. A lovely relaxing time – I’d recommend this easy walk.

It’s certainly a short walk, but this pond is stunning and always has lovely surprises in store, whatever the season. You can walk round it two or three times and it’s different every time. We’ve been going there regularly ever since we found it on the website. So thank you!
