Description of the walk

Departure from the car park of the Salle Polyvalente in Cressensac, 1 Rue de la Résistance.

Markings: Three orange circles

(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn right towards Avenue d'Occitanie; as you pass the Resistance monument, spare a thought for the resistance fighters who gave their lives for our freedom. Turn left, then cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue to Rue de la Mairie on the right.

(1) At the beginning of this street, you will see the bell tower of the church that the infamous Das Reich division bombed in an attempt to break the Resistance's hold. On the right is the village castle, which also served as a presbytery. Head towards the church (inside the church: painting on the right, donated by Emperor Napoleon III to the commune). Take the alley opposite the church to reach the old village fortifications (now gone) at the end. First turn left then right and follow Rue des Fortifications. At the end of this street, turn right down Rue de la Palissière. On the right is the media library park and on the left is the new school.

(2) At the end of the street, turn left onto Rue du Stade until you reach the stop sign, then turn right onto Route du Pré Fouché. Follow this road until you reach a path on the right.

(3) Follow it until it meets the D840 (Route de Martel).

(4) Turn left, carefully, onto Route du Batut on the right and follow it to the D820 (Route de Souillac). In the centre of the hamlet, admire the magnificent dovecote (private property). Cross carefully and take Chemin des Fournels opposite, then Chemin du Moulin à Vent. Follow this path until you reach the intersection with a path on the right (there are signs for the routes here) called "du Moulin".

(5) Follow this path until you reach the tarmac road.

(6) Turn left onto it until you reach Chemin de la Fouilladelle on the right, then follow it to the crossroads with Rue de Gignac. Cross over and follow Route de la Belonie to the hamlet of Neyragues. At the entrance to the hamlet, take a look at the communal well on the left.

(7) In the centre of the hamlet, note the oven, which has been renovated by the hamlet's residents. Take Route des Aliniers on the right towards Cressensac and continue to Chemin de la Fontaine Chaumont on the left.

(8) Follow it to the fountain.

(9) Take the path on the right opposite the fountain to reach the Salle Polyvalente (S/E).

Living in Brive, we are delighted to have discovered this treasure trove of hiking trails in Cressenssac. This is our second walk there and it's really nice to have so many trails close to home and of varying lengths. Perfect in winter between showers or on hot summer mornings before siesta time.
At the very beginning, at point 1, perhaps specify "at the end of the alley, take Rue des Fortifications which descends on your left, then turn right onto Rue de la Palissière". This was the only point where we hesitated a little about which direction to take.
Thank you for sharing.

A very pleasant and easy route. Some sections are not very shaded, so bring a hat. Excellent, highly visible signposting.
