Around Bonnemain

Bonnemain is one of the twenty-six communes in the canton of Combourg (also known as Romantic Brittany). This walk complements the one to the north-east, which runs between the village and the Domaine des Ormes. It winds its way through the countryside via sunken paths and past some pretty little houses.

Description of the walk

Departure from the car park at Bonnemain church.

(S/E) Leave the square and turn right, walking alongside the church on your right. Then walk alongside the cemetery and, at the corner, take a path on the left, the Passage de la Main.

(1) Turn right onto Rue de la Gare (D80) and continue for 400 metres. Pass a housing estate on your right.

(2) Turn left onto the grassy path, which turns right to reach a road at a place called La Flaudais.

(3) Take the small road on the left, follow it for 450 metres to reach a first crossroads and first turn right then left to take the road that leads to the hamlet of La Perrine. Continue to number 13 and immediately take the gravel path on the left. Follow it to the D9, Rue de la Futaie.

(4) Follow it to the left towards the village and turn right into the first street, Rue de la Rousselaie, for about 200 metres. Turn right into Rue des Peupliers and continue for 200 metres until you reach a grassy path on the right.

(5) Take this path to reach the car park of the village hall and continue to Rue de Joudette. Follow it to the left, then turn right onto Rue de Frémisson for about 170 metres.

(6) Turn right onto the dirt track towards the sports complex and leave it on your left. Then turn right at the first track, then left. Follow this tree-lined sunken track which joins a road.

(7) Follow it to the right until you reach a place called La Poterie. At the entrance to the village, before the insect hotel, turn left onto the dirt track. This will take you to the D9, which you should follow to the right for about 50 metres.

(8) Ignore the street coming from the left and cross the railway line at the level crossing.

(9) On the other side, continue straight ahead on the D9 for about 100 metres. Then take the first path on the left to go around the Étang de la Sablonnière. On the western shore of the pond, take a path along the railway line and follow it to the left.

(9) Return to the D9, follow it to the right and cross the railway line again at the level crossing.

(8) After about 100 metres, turn right onto Rue du Calvaire. Then take the second street on the right. After about 30 metres, turn left onto a path. Join Allée de Cézembre, which turns 90° and reaches Allée de Châteaubriand.

(10) Then turn left. Join Rue de la Marre Boutier and follow it to the right. At the end, turn right to reach the church car park (S/E).

The pond, covering an area of 4.3 hectares, is dedicated to fly fishing for eight months of the year, from early October to late May, and is open for all types of fishing in the summer. It is populated with rainbow trout, brown trout, pike, roach, perch and tench. It is also home to many wild species such as dragonflies, great crested grebes, mallards and coots.
