Located in the north-west of the Ille-et-Vilaine department, Bonnemain is one of the twenty-six parishes in the canton of Combourg, also known as Romantic Brittany. This gentle walk allows you to discover the surrounding countryside and the Domaine des Ormes, renowned for its campsite. The path is lined with some beautiful stone houses and two wayside crosses. Description of the walk

Parking on the grass for 3 to 4 vehicles near the level crossing (D9).

(S/E) With your back to the parking area, walk downhill for about 70 metres.

(1) Take the path on the left that leads to the Étang la Sablonnière and follow it.

(2) At the intersection of the paths, turn right, cross a bridge, continue to the hamlet of La Chaise and cross it, keeping to the left. Continue along the path that leads into the undergrowth to reach the hamlet of La Praie.

(3) At the road, turn right for about 160 metres until you reach the path on the left. Follow it for about 170 metres.

(4) At the intersection, follow the path on the left which joins a road at the hamlet of La Clouyère. Follow it to the right until you reach the wayside cross (on the left of the road) after about 250 m.

(5) Take the path on the left, which may be very muddy. If so, retrace your steps and follow the road on the left. If the path is passable, follow it. It makes a wide circular loop to join the road, then follow it to the left.

(6) Just before Haute Barbotaie, turn right onto the path and follow it until it joins the D795.

(7) First turn right then left after about 30 metres and cross the road carefully to enter the Domaine des Ormes.

(8) After 300 metres, take the path on the right. Follow it for about 1 kilometre, passing a riding school on your left, until you reach the hamlet of Les Rieux.

(9) Turn right and follow the road that joins the D795.

(10) Turn left, cross carefully and continue left towards the car park. In the middle of the car park, a sign invites you to turn right. Follow it, walk along a small pond and join a road at the hamlet of La Ville Hodia.

(11) Follow this road, which turns left, continue for about 550 metres and you will come to the fork at La Praie.

(3) Take the path you came on, on the left, in the opposite direction to return to the Étang de la Sablonnière.

(2) Turn right to go around the pond and return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

The 16th-century Moulin de la Chaise is one of the oldest water mills still standing in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine. It has been converted into a dwelling.

The commune has many crosses. Along the way, you can see the Croix de La Ville Blanche (a granite wayside cross belonging to the Juhel-Delaunay family, with an inlaid statue niche) and the Croix de La Haute Barbotais (dated 1541), which is the oldest in the commune.
