The Parc de la Higourdais and the Croix de Pierre

Start from the Higourdais car park.

(S/E) From the far end of the car park, head south-east. Walk past the bakery and turn left to follow the edge of the pond. Continue between the two bodies of water and veer left to walk past the old watermill. Go down to the right and turn left before the Ruisseau du Landal.

(1) Between the two fields, turn left and follow the sunken track. Cross the D85 and continue straight on, veering slightly to the right towards Ville Oubert. Take the first road on the left and, after 200 m, take a sunken track on the right.

(2) Continue to the right along the road. At a sharp right-hand bend, take the stony track on the left. Follow it to the crossroads at Croix des Landes.

(3) Continue straight ahead. As you approach the houses, turn right and cross the Chaussis Veillard. Continue to the left (see note) then, at the T-junction, turn right and return to the junction you passed earlier.

(3) Continue straight on. At the right-hand bend, take a wooded path on the left. Go through two gates and continue until you reach a road. Follow this road on the left for 100 m and turn onto the stony path on the right until you reach the road.

(4) Follow the road to the left and reach La Bouilière.

(5) 150 m after the cross, take the path on the left and reach the Croix de Pierre.
Turn left. Walk straight through the hamlet.

(6) At the end of the hamlet, turn right.
Off the route: After 300 m, at the left-hand bend, follow a path on the right to discover the Pont de Pierre, 150 m away.
Continue along the path, ignoring a track on the right. At the end, turn left and then, after 100 m, right.

(7) When you reach a road, continue straight ahead and turn left towards La Madrelle. Take the first path on the right and walk due north.

(8) At the cross in the hamlet of "Le Bahut", continue straight on to reach the crossroads at Croix Saint-Menas.

(9) Turn right and follow the tree-lined path to the road. The car park is on the other side (S/E).

This route is taken from the brochure "Hiking in the Dol-de-Bretagne region & Mont-Saint-Michel Bay". It combines the Parc de la Higourdais route (marked in yellow) and the Croix de Pierre route (marked in white) into a single route.

Note: instead of turning left, continue straight ahead and turn right. At the end of the pond, two picnic tables await you.

The Higourdais bakery: a small thatched cottage dating from the^19th and^20th centuries.

The Higourdais watermill: following initial restoration work at the end of^{the 20th} century, it was left in its current state to protect a species of bat, the horseshoe bat, which has made it its home. Indeed, it is home to the largest and most active nursery for the lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros) in Brittany. In 2001, the nursery had 45 adults; by 2015, the number had risen to 265.

The crosses along the route:
- (3) Croix des Landes: this is a wooden cross dating from the^20th century.
- (5) Croix de la Bouillière: this dates from^{the 19th century}; it features a niche for a statue and a face on the shaft.
- (6) Croix de la Croix de Pierre: thought to date from the Middle Ages; the shaft has disappeared but a figure can be seen on the back.
- (8) Croix du Bahut: this dates from the^16th century; it bears a name in Gothic script.
- (9) Croix de Saint-Menas: erected in 2005 to replace an old wooden cross that has since disappeared.
