Description of the walk

Start: Church Square in Aumerval.

(S/E) Head towards Ferfay (red and whiteGR®127markings) following the D91 for 400 metres

(1) After house no. 60, turn right, staying on the GR®. After a 90° right-hand bend, continue along this good path which runs alongside the cemetery and reaches the D90

(2). Head straight on and climb towards the woods. Cross through them (still following theGR®). The route can be difficult in wet weather, but the path has been reinforced. You emerge from the woods (the path then becomes easier) and reach a small tarmac road.

(3) Turn right and reach a junction (elevation 173): a large house often surrounded by cars).

(4) Turn right, leaving theGR® (which heads off to the left). 250 metres further on, take the path on the right, heading straight towards the woods. Once at the edge of the woods, the path turns left. It then becomes a descending (and slippery) track leading to a small road.

(5) Follow it to the left and uphill until you reach a junction. Turn right and walk for 750 metres to reach a Y-junction

(6) Leave the tarmac and take the path opposite. It turns right, then left, running along the edge of the woods (a passage that can be difficult at times) and reaches a forest house.

(7) Turn right (before the forest house) and head down to the D90.

(8) Head straight on along a wide path which turns left and reaches a T-junction.

(9) Turn right and reach another T-junction, near a reservoir. Turn right again, ignoring the path coming from the left (this is theGR®127, which will take us back to Aumerval), and 1 km further on, you reach a three-way junction.

(10) Take the grassy path on the left, which soon joins a small road.
Follow it to the left, crossing the Coqueline. After a left-hand bend, you’ll reach the D90 (waymark).

(11). Continue straight ahead for a few metres and turn left (sign with hiking arrows) to follow a narrow track (in wet weather, it is very difficult) along the edge of a field, beside the barbed wire
.
At the T-junction, turn right and head towards the church (S/E).

A lovely walk in fine weather. Beautiful views with the slag heaps in the background.
There are always two muddy and slippery sections, so it’s worth bringing walking poles
and hiking boots.

Please note: there is a steep, muddy and very slippery section of the path between points 2 and 3 (crossing through the woods). Walking poles and sturdy footwear are essential.
A very interesting family walk. Stunning views on a clear day.

Thanks, CABOBILL, but the tagging isn’t up to us – or the author, for that matter. If you have any suggestions on how to improve the description, we’d be more than happy to hear them.

Hello,
the information for the first 4 km is fine; however, after that there’s a glitch somewhere: we’re supposed to go via ‘Rietz’ ==> there’s no proper signposting before this point, which means we end up being directed towards Fiefs.

Signposting problem between markers 3 and 4!!!!

What’s more, though this isn’t your fault, it’s impossible to correct the route by trying to cut through the Nédonchel woods as everything is fenced off with barbed wire
Kind regards

Hello, and thank you for your comment. I think the author will respond; we’re sending them a message to that effect. Their description is detailed, yet the comments are unfavourable. With the new waypoints (WP) feature, I think they’ll be able to provide us with further details.

As I’m from the area, I found it hard to find my way
so I think a beginner hiker or someone unfamiliar with the area would get lost

A very pleasant walk, but you need to know the area well at certain points to find your way.
Not to be attempted after heavy rain, as some sections become difficult due to motorised vehicles
In fine weather, superb views of the Lille area.

A good hike with a fair bit of elevation gain
It’s a shame the weather wasn’t on our side on 21 June!!!
Signposting is a bit of a gamble – the sign is hidden by tall grass
