Around Estavar

This easy countryside walk around the village of Estavar is very pleasant. It offers beautiful views of the countryside and the surrounding mountains. On this route, which is marked for two-thirds of the way, there is a short stretch of road—not too long but necessary to move from one path to another—with both shaded and sunny sections. The unmarked section is straightforward to follow with a little care. Allow 3 hours at a moderate pace.

Description of the walk

Head to the village of Estavar from the Égat roundabout. At the roundabout in front of the U store, take the Estavar Llivia direction on the D33. Before Llivia, turn left to reach Estavar. At the entrance, turn right onto the road running alongside the stream. Park in the car park next to the picnic area.

(S/E) From the car park, continue along this street heading north-east. Pass the town hall and, further on, Saint-Julien Church on your left to reach the junction with the Route de Saillagouse (D33), which you follow to the right. Shortly after crossing the Angust, you will arrive at the stadium.

(1) Turn left onto the path that runs past the stadium on your right.

Marked section

Follow this road, Cami dels Bagatells, which leads to the hamlet of Bajande. It climbs gradually due east and passes the Chapel of Saint-Barthélémy de Bajande. Walk through the hamlet.

(2) Leave the road and take the shaded path opposite. At the next junction, turn right onto the shaded path heading due south which crosses the hamlet of Callastre. You will come to a stream.

(3) From due south, the path branches off to the right and heads south-west, offering lovely views of the region.

(4) Pass close to the Train Jaune line and continue due west to the Route de Saillagouse D33.

(5) Follow it to the left and after 300 m the signposting leads you to the path on the right which points to Mas Sant Josep (Saint-Joseph), a very pretty house. Continue to the N154 without taking it.

Unmarked section

This unmarked but very easy section will allow you to return fairly quickly to your starting point.

(6) Just before reaching the road, turn right onto a very good, shaded path that runs parallel to the road. Follow this path, which leads to the outskirts of Llivia. At the end of this path, behind a house, turn left to reach the N154.

(7) Follow it to the right, crossing the bridge with care on the bend ( it is best to cross to the other side to have a clear view on this bend, which has no kerb).

(8) After 200 metres, at the next junction, turn right onto the N155 towards Estavar and shortly afterwards, at the next junction, turn right onto the Route de Llivia which leads to Estavar (S/E).
