Pic dels Moros from Égat

Located in the heart of Cerdagne, Pic dels Moros offers a magnificent 360° view. As a bonus, in good weather, you will be treated to the ballet of paragliders, whose launch area is located just below.

This hike is inspired by the PR®69 and PR®71 routes of the Pyrénées-Cerdagne Tourist Office, with a few modifications.

Description of the walk

Starting point car park in front of the Égat municipal workshops, Rue de la Soulane.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, take a small path on the left that passes in front of some houses. Pass in front of the town hall and then take the stairs on the right.

(1) Come out onto Rue des Pyrénées and follow it to the left. Leave Rue desSorbiers on your right.

(2) Turn right onto Chemin Ramader, which continues as Chemin de la Porteille.

(3) Just before a car park on the left, turn left onto a path towards Croix d'Égat. Continue to the cross. Continue for another 300 metres.

(4) At the intersection, turn left. Continue straight ahead until you reach a cross-country track.

(5) Follow this track to the right, crossing a cattle grid.

(6) After about 150 m, at a junction with a track on the right, turn left onto a path that crosses a stream and then climbs into the woods (yellow markings). Reach an electric fence and follow it, on either side, to Pic dels Moros.

(7) Descend via a small path to the west. You will reach a wide track that winds downhill.

(8) At the crossroads of four tracks (elevation 2094), take the leftmost track.

(9) Join the concrete road that leads to the paragliding launch area (elevation 2019). Continue down this road until you reach a sharp left-hand bend, just before the second crossing of the Ribals stream (marked as a ford on the IGN map).

(10) Leave the road and descend to the left on an unmarked path between the stream and the woods. Continue along this path at the edge of the forest until you reach a horizontal path.

(11) Follow it to the left. From there, you will find the yellow and red markings of the GRP® Tour de Cerdagne. After crossing a stream, continue along the road to Rue des Pyrénées.

(2) Continue downhill to the right, taking the same path you took on the way up.

(1) Continue straight ahead until you reach a roundabout. Then turn right and continue straight ahead to reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

The route is marked in yellow almost all the way along. Only the shortcut between (10) and (11) is not marked, but it is more pleasant than the concrete road.

Notes: between points (6) and (7), the Tourist Office recommends crossing the fence by opening the insulated handles to follow it on the left, but when you arrive under the peak, there is no opening and you have to go underneath. So follow this fence on either side, but be careful when passing underneath, as it shakes quite a bit if you touch it.

Worth a visit

At point (5), you can cross the stream and walk 50 metres to see the Fontaine de l'Arrel fountain. The dolmen indicated next to it does not look very authentic.

Halfway between (8) and (9), a small path marked on the maps leads directly down to the paragliding launch area. The path is not very visible, but the wood is sparse, so you can get through easily. You can then reach point (9) via the horizontal access path.
