Departure from Montereau station (one of the termini of the Transilien R line).
(S/E) When leaving the station, turn left and cross Place Pierre Semard, keeping the bus station on your right. Cross a car park and you will come to a roundabout. Go around it on the left, take Avenue de la Prairie and head west.
(1) Cross an old (disused) railway line and turn right along a wood. After about 50 metres, turn left and take the tunnel under the (active) railway line. On the other side, turn left and you will come to a small road.
(2) Immediately leave the road and take a path on the right. Walk along a field on your left. At the end, go around a pond on the right. Then walk along a school and the Varennes town hall and you will come to a crossroads (Place Jean Séjourné).
(3) First turn left then right onto Rue Marcel Paul, leaving the post office on your right. You will come out onto Rue de la Sauvagerie (the park of the same name is opposite).
(4) Follow it to the right. At the end, turn sharply left onto Avenue d'Ormes. Walk past a secondary school and then a sports ground.
(5) At the corner, turn right onto Rue des Trembles. Cross Allée des Peupliers, then Rue de Maison Rouge. Continue along Chemin des Aulnettes for about 1 km until you reach the leisure centre pond.
(6) Go around the pond on the right and pass in front of the entrance to the leisure centre. After the picnic tables, turn left and continue along the pond. At the south-western tip of the pond, continue straight ahead and pass under a high-voltage power line.
(7) Shortly afterwards, turn left and walk along a sandpit on your right. Pass under the high-voltage power line again.
(8) You will come to a track; follow it and cross a small bridge. At the next intersection, go straight ahead with a PR®. Cross Avenue d'Ormes and continue straight ahead on Chemin de Nemours with the GR®11 (red and white markings).
(9) At the next crossroads, go straight ahead with a PR® (let the GR® go to the left). Continue straight ahead along a stream and pass under a power line. You will arrive at Avenue du 8 Mai 1945 (D403).
(10) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing on the left and follow it to the left for about 50 metres. Take the first right, Rue Danielle Casanova. Continue straight ahead and, at the end, turn left into Rue des Dormelles. Follow this road to the end.
(11) Then turn right onto Avenue Albert Gravé. At a three-way junction, turn right, still on Avenue Albert Gravé. Take the bridge over the railway tracks and walk along a shopping area.
(12) You will reach Route de Sens (D605). Turn left and follow this road. Go around the roundabout on the left and cross the D28 with caution. Follow Boulevard du Général Leclerc for about 30 metres, then turn right into Parc des Noues. At the first intersection, turn right and cross the park. Leave the park and join Boulevard de la République. Turn right and follow this road.
(13) At the traffic lights, turn left onto Quai des Noues and follow the Yonne river on your right. Continue straight ahead until you reach the first bridge, which marks the confluence of the Yonne and Seine rivers.
(14) Turn left and you will immediately arrive at the foot of the Collégiale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Loup.
(15) Turn right onto Rue Danielle Casanova. At the end, first turn right then left onto Rue Porte Bossu and continue to the end. Then turn left onto Rue de la Pépinière Royale.
(16) At the crossroads, turn right onto Rue du Petit Vaugirard and walk past the school of the same name. Take the first left towards Résidence Vaugirard. Walk alongside the botanical garden on your left. You will come out onto Boulevard des Messieurs; follow it to the left.
(17) At the crossroads, turn right onto Rue Pierre Brossolette. Take the second left, Rue des Dames.
(18) Then take the second right, Rue Étienne Dolet. Cross Rue du Châtelet and continue along Rue des Prés Rebours. After about 200 metres, you will find Montereau station on your left (S/E).
