In the heart of one of our Ardennes forests around Montleban

As a resident of the pretty little village of Montleban, I’d like to suggest a route to my fellow walkers and/or joggers that consists of 90% wooded paths and 10% quiet, unpaved roads.
Throughout the walk, you may be lucky enough to encounter a family of wild boars or deer.

Description of the walk

The suggested starting point is the small cul-de-sac leading to the Montleban football club. You’ll find plenty of parking.

(S/E) From the football club car park, head back up the small path you came along and join the N812. Follow it to the left for about 200m.

(1) Cross the N812 (take care) and take the tarmac road directly in front of you. At the first three-way junction, turn left.

(2) Follow a small dirt track on the left, between two houses.

(3) At the end of this path, turn right onto a stony track which, after a good kilometre, will take you to a crossroads at the edge of the forest.

(4) Turn right at this crossroads and continue along this path, which will take you into one of our beautiful Ardennes forests. The path, known as the Chemin de la Pisserotte, will take you from an altitude of approximately 430 m to 547 m. Follow it, ignoring the paths branching off to the right and left, until you reach a crossroads where a sign indicates your altitude.

(5) Take the second path on the right at this junction, taking care not to take the first path, which is private. This partly stony path will turn into a dirt track after around 500 m.

(6) After a kilometre, turn right and continue along the track (still a dirt track) towards Lomré.

(7) As you leave the woods, you will see a farm (the first house visible since you left Montleban). Turn right and continue until you reach a tarmac road.

(8) Follow this road straight on down to the village of Montleban at the N812.

(9) Follow it to the right for about 50 metres, then turn left into the first street. Turn right and walk along the sports ground to reach the football club car park (S/E).

The route starting from Montleban does not pass any shops or offer any exceptional views. It is intended for those seeking peace and quiet.

During the hunting season, it would be advisable to check with the local authorities regarding any closures of the paths forming the route.

A very beautiful hike; I found it a bit monotonous in the section just after entering the forest, and I think it would have been possible to cut off a little to the right to leave the path and venture into the trees. After that, the views are varied, and it's a relatively easy finish.

I'll attach a few photos.

Not much to say in the way of comments, an easy and peaceful walk, the trail is clear enough on its own but the description is well done, with woods and landscapes on the menu.

Thank you to the author for sharing this with us.

Very quiet, we saw deer and lots of mushrooms (fly agaric, boletus, coprin).
You can park just before the football field; I think it's the cemetery car park.
Very easy.

A beautiful route through the snow. Except for the last kilometre on the road, which could be avoided by taking a single track shown on the map, the ride is 100% in the forest.
