The Blaise flows through Louvilliers, if you don't mind!

Let's go in search of the Blaise, a mischievous little river that hides so well from its source that geographers are perplexed. According to the elders, it originates near the Rond des Louvetiers, between Tardais and the Étang de la Bénette. Recent maps show it near the Grand Rond. In fact, these are "gouttiers", episodic streams that flow towards and cross the Tardais pond. It emerges under the dyke where a mill once operated, but suddenly disappears, sinking into a "chasm". It sometimes reappears.

At the edge of the forest, the Ruisseau de Saint-Cyr joins it. Together, the two waterways pass at the foot of Louvilliers-lès-Perche, flowing sometimes on the surface, sometimes underground. The Blaise reappears definitively in the Étang de Dampierre. In the past, it enabled the establishment of a very important steel complex. It then flows towards Dreux, which it crosses, before joining the Eure at Fermaincourt.

Description of the walk

Louvilliers-lès-Perche on the D30, south of Brezolles. Parking near the town hall, Place Raoul Raffenel (via the D146).

No signposts

(S/E) From the town hall, follow the road to the crossroads. Continue straight ahead, passing the church and cemetery. Follow the D146 to the bridge. View of the Blaise valley, remains of the embankment on which the old tramway ran on the right, on the left of the road, the track and station have been incorporated into a property.

(1) After the bridge, leave the road and go down to the right along the path. Ford the Blaise (this can sometimes be tricky, see practical information).

(2) Immediately afterwards, follow the path to the left, continuing straight ahead and ignoring the path that climbs to the right. The path approaches the Étang de Dampierre, where the Blaise reappears. Pass near the Gord farm and arrive at the D20. Carefully follow the road on the left until you reach the gate near the pond's dyke. View of the old Forges buildings. Visits are possible, entrance further on.

(3) From the Dampierre pond dyke, carefully cross the D20 and turn right onto the grassy path that climbs between the fields. It crosses the small access road to La Billonière. Turn right then left and continue along the path, almost opposite, until you reach the D146.

(4) Turn right, then immediately right again before Les Granges des Châtelets, to follow Chemin de l'Alma (tarmac) which crosses the hamlet, heading south. At the fork, follow the path on the right. Ignore a path on the left and continue to a crossroads with a path coming diagonally from La Billonière.

(5) Continue straight ahead. Follow the southern edge of Bois Montéage, then the edge of a wood on the left. About 100 m further on, you will reach the start of a path on the right.

(6) Take this path towards the D20 (you will see a white marker with a red ring).

(7) Carefully cross the D20 and follow the small access road to Boulay Sauveloup opposite. Walk alongside the premises of this agricultural company.

(8) Immediately afterwards, take the path on the left. Follow it to a pond near the calvary, where it meets the D30.

(9) Turn right and carefully follow the road that crosses the Blaise and leads to the central crossroads of Louvilliers-lès-Perche. Turn left to reach Place Raoul Raffenel (S/E).

Notes

(2) Crossing the Blaise can sometimes be difficult at the ford.

If this is not possible, return to the D 146 and follow it to the right until you reach the entrance to Dampierre, then turn right towards Senonches to reach the dyke of the pond (3).

In winter, it is also possible to follow the D 30 towards Mesnil-Thomas, then take the path on the left (9) after the bridge to Le Boulay-Sauveloup and descend to the left along the path leading to the Blaise (8). You will find the path leading to the right towards Le Gord. This means you follow part of the same route on the way there and back, but avoids the long detour via the D 146.

At the moment, the rivers are at their highest level. We'll have to wait a little while. To avoid this ford, we would have to continue along the road to the entrance to Dampierre, then head towards Senonches to reach the pond's dyke. But that would make the route much less interesting and add more tarmac. In any case, it puts an end to the rumours: the Blaise flows well upstream of the Dampierre pond!

It's good to have found a way across. The route itself stays on public paths. Thank you for your feedback and enjoy your walks in the area despite the weather-related problems.

Yes, we cut through the woods to follow the Blaise because there's a footbridge further on.
I didn't say anything about the Blaise , I was just surprised by its flow. In any case, it's a nice route given the region.
Thank you for this route.
