Description of the walk

The start is at Place Saint-Martin, opposite the church.

(S/E) Turn left (facing the church) onto Rue George Sand (D38), heading north-west. Follow the green signposts.
On leaving the village, continue right on the D38, crossing the disused railway line. Continue for a good kilometre, skirting the Etang de Font Chaude, then cross the Indre.

(1) At the crossroads, take the path opposite, veering slightly to the right, which climbs north-east for 600 m (leave the green (and blue) signposting on your right). Continue straight on along the small road to reach the hamlet of Le Ris.

(2) At the cross, take the small road leading down to the left, which continues as a forest track climbing up after the little stream known as the Ris.

(3) At the crossroads, turn right. The track becomes a road (Allée des Bois) and passes through the hamlet of Le Tarde.
At the next junction, follow Allée des Chapelettes straight ahead, to the east. Continue along the path that runs alongside the avenue.

(4) At the crossroads, turn right onto the path leading back down towards the small stream you passed earlier. Head back up and continue straight on.

(5) Turn onto the path leading uphill to the left, then 1 km further on, continue straight ahead along a wide path to reach the junction of small roads.

(6) Take the path leading down opposite, to the south, towards the Plessis d’en Bas farm. When you reach it, continue down the wide path.

(7) Once at the bottom, turn left and cross the Indre at Gué du Loup. Follow the path for 1.2 km, then continue straight on at the junction to reach the old Boret station.

(8) Carry on straight ahead, passing two small access roads to houses on the left, then at the fork, turn right to reach the Montipouret cemetery.

(9) Turn right onto the D69. Walk past the Mers cemetery, then follow the D38 to the right to return to the starting point (S/E).

Hello Youmeyoyo.
I’ve just read your comment. I completely agree; the situation remains unchanged as I haven’t heard anything from the town hall. For the time being, the only solution is unfortunately to carry straight on to point 8 until you reach the cemetery and turn right onto the D69.
However, I’ve just found some new marked trails on the Mers-sur-Indre website. Once lockdown is over, I’ll be happy to go and try out these walks and suggest a new route to replace this one.
Kind regards.

Nothing has changed since the 2019 observations
Passage impossible between points 8 and 9
Path impassable after level crossing
We managed to get under the fence but the stream was impassable
We had to turn back and took the road to Montipouret cemetery, then returned to Mers, still via the D69
So a really unpleasant end to the route
Will these comments be of any use? 🤔🤔🤔

Thanks for the info!
Perhaps it’s a way of maintaining the path in an eco-friendly way!🤔😏
I’ll look into it and might make a change, but it’s a shame because that bit was quite enjoyable to do… and it meant we didn’t have to walk too far back along the road!
All the best

A lovely, well-signposted walk exploring the area around Mers, but towards the end, when trying to get back to Mers via the railway line, the path is inaccessible because a farmer has put up an electric fence blocking it off – and to make matters worse, there are cows there too...
We had to extend the route, which meant walking along the side of the road.
So check with the local council why the farmer has put up this fence, or else change the end of the route.

On this grey December day, we went on a very varied walk with a few steep sections. The paths were very wet and often rutted by tractor wheels! What’s more, towards the end of the route, a farmer had blocked the path for about 200 metres with some thin rope, which didn’t stop us from getting through… whilst taking care not to get a shot from a rifle… You never know!
