Large car park near the old railway station.
(S/E) Head to the back of the car park to reach the pedestrian access to the town centre (sign) and turn left at the first street you come to (Rue des Jardins), which leads to Avenue de la Gare. Turn right and continue down towards the port.
At the patisserie-chocolatier, cross Avenue Pierre Guéguin in two stages at the traffic lights.
(Please note that the pedestrian crossing is only safe on the second part of the avenue). Head towards Quai de l'Aiguillon and walk towards the walled town in front of you. On your left, you will see the fishing port.
(1) Turn left to take the old drawbridge and arrive at a small square. Go around the former Governor's House, now a heritage centre (free access from April to October), and turn immediately right (signposted "accès aux fortifications") to enter a passageway that leads to a small street running alongside the ramparts. Note the old well on your left. At the end of this street, turn right onto a path that continues along the top of the ramparts and offers various views of the marina and Pointe du Cabellou.
When you reach the ferry, turn right onto the slipway for a return trip (view of the other bank). Pass the Carré des Larrons (summer performance venue) and continue towards the main street with its many shops. Shortly afterwards, leave this shopping street and turn right into an alleyway that runs alongside the ramparts again and leads to the Fishing Museum. Leave the walled town.
GR® 34 markings: White and red (not very visible)
(1) Follow the quay on the left that runs alongside the marina, go around the harbour master's office to reach the end of the pier (beautiful view of the walled town).
(2) Turn around, pass to the left of the harbour master's office and continue along the esplanade towards the Marinarium. Pass between this building and the youth hostel to reach the small Chapelle de la Croix chapel, which is rich in ex-votos. Also note the small La Croix lighthouse, one of the landmarks for the entrance to the port of Concarneau, and, a few metres further on, a bronze statue of a great cormorant, a bird that is very common in the area.
(3) Continue along the corniche (there are numerous information panels about the heritage and seabirds). Pass several beaches: Plage du Rodel, Plage des Dames and Plage de Cornouaille (view of Pointe de Beg Meil, recognisable by the antennas of its semaphore). The route loses some of its sea views due to the villas built along the beach. Go through a roundabout.
Unmarked: a few directional signs from time to time.
(4) Just before Plage des Sables Blancs, at the "Océan" bus stop, cross Rue des Sables Blancs at the pedestrian crossing and take the path opposite that runs alongside a sports ground on the right. At the end of the path (signposted Parcours n°1 Vallée de Kerandon), go around the retention basin on the left and follow the path, which becomes gravel, uphill alongside a campsite. At the top, turn left into Rue du Muguet, then take the first right, Rue des Géraniums, to reach the greenway. Follow it to the right towards the town centre for about 200 metres.
(5) At the Kernéc'h sign, leave the greenway on the right and follow the path downhill, passing a wooded area on your right, until you reach a crossroads. Go down a small staircase, turn left into a wide wooded alley and continue for about 500 metres until you reach a tunnel under Avenue Robert Jan.
(6) Go back up onto the greenway and turn left (bench). Follow it and note that the path is marked out on the ground by two rails that have been left in place. Continue to the left until you reach a sign for "Kerandon vélo".
(7) Turn right, walk along the walls decorated with various tags, and go up Rue Racine on the right, which continues into Rue Voltaire. You will arrive in front of the old fire station. Cross the pedestrian crossing carefully and go up the street on the left towards the Espace Jeunes.
(8) Just after this building, turn right into a discreet passageway and walk along the tall buildings on your left. After the last one (children's playground), turn left to go around the Kerbalise socio-cultural centre on your right and come out at the top of a wooded valley. Leave the path on the left that runs alongside a building and take the one that descends diagonally. You will come to a crossroads near a bench.
(9) At the sign for Trail No. 1 Vallée de Kerandon, turn right.
Yellow and red markings
Follow the path south-east, keeping the stream on your right, and you will come out onto Rue de Minven, which you follow along the left-hand pavement. At the stop sign, turn right into Rue Jules Simon, which slopes downwards, and ignore the first street on the right.
No markings
Turn right onto Rue Saint Jacques (signposted Route No. 1 Vallée de Kerandon) and follow this street uphill. Walk along the cemetery on your left, then turn left onto Avenue de la Gare, where you continue to walk along the cemetery.
(10) At the car park sign, cross carefully at the pedestrian crossing and head towards the old station opposite. Turn left into the car park to return to your starting point (S/E).
