Description of the walk

Park in the Stang Bihan car park.
Access: from Quimper, take the D783, after the Croaz Avalou roundabout, turn right at the sign for "Concarneau par la Côte". At Beg Menez (intersection with the Forêt Fouesnant road), turn left and follow this road until you reach the car park indicated by a blue sign for "point de vue" on the right.

(S/E) From the car park, turn right onto the road leading down to Concarneau, following the pedestrian path.
(This section has recently been redesigned and made safer for pedestrians and cyclists. There is now a cycle path on both sides of the road and a pedestrian path on the sea side).

(1) After the "Entrée Concarneau" sign, cross carefully and turn left onto Route du Pont de Lanadan. From here, you will see a bridge. Go under it and, a few metres further on, at a barrier on the left, take a path that leads to the greenway, opposite a cycle sign for "Centre Ville 2.5 km".

(2) Turn left to continue on the old Concarneau-Rosporden railway line, which is part of the Concarneau-Roscoff greenway.

(3) At the pedestrian crossing, cross Rue des Tulipes (opposite École du Dorlett), continue straight ahead and pass under a road bridge.

(4) At a mountain bike marker located near a bench, you will arrive at a triangular junction that was the intersection between the railway line coming from the main station and the line that went to the port, called Embranchement du Port. Turn right, continue straight ahead and ignore the paths on the right.

(5) Cross Rue Paul Debussy and enter the beautiful Allée Jean-Marie Le Bris opposite, the terminus of the Embranchement du Port.

(6) At the traffic lights, cross Avenue Pierre Gueguen and follow the quays on the right to pass in front of the Ville Close, then the harbour master's office.

(7) After the Marinarium, walk past the Youth Hostel. Follow theGR®34markings (red and white), pass Place de la Croix and follow the coastline along Boulevard Katerine Wylie and Boulevard Alfred Guillou. Walk past Thalasso and continue to Plage des Sables Blancs.

(8) Turn left onto theGR®34coastal path, which offers beautiful panoramic views. After Kernous Beach, be careful not to trip as there are sometimes roots crossing the path. Walk along Anse de Saint-Jean on your left

(9) At the top of the wooden steps, turn left and continue a few metres past the "Anse Saint-Jean" sign. Turn left and follow the path along the cove. This section is more physically demanding and is marked by numerous roots. Stay as close to the shore as possible, following theGR® markings (directional posts and markings on trees).

(10) After the point, which offers a beautiful view of the ocean, walk along Anse Saint-Laurent for about 600 metres.

(11) At a wooden signpost marked "Point de vue et parking" (viewpoint and car park) (located opposite a campsite on the other bank), turn right onto a path that climbs through a wooded area to the Stang Bihan car park, following the signs (S/E).

Thank you for this beautiful walk in the sunshine on 14/02/2023.

I am familiar with the coastal path between Ville Close and Anse du Saint-Laurent, but I had never dared to walk along the road to Concarneau at Stang Bihan because it was too dangerous for my liking.

The recent development of cycle paths and footpaths along this route has completely changed the situation.

Best regards.
JP

Following the comment dated 20/09/2022, I would like to clarify that this route, as described, does not take the Kerguéres road.
The return journey is via the GR34 footpath only.
The footpath running alongside the La Forêt Fouesnant - Concarneau road is only used up to point 1.
Kind regards

Instead of taking the Kerguéres road at the end of the route, which is very dangerous, it is better to exit at the bridge between the Maison Blanche and Lanadan neighbourhoods, go under the bridge, continue for 150 metres and then turn right onto the road connecting Concarneau to La Forêt-Fouesnant, walking along the cycle and footpath to point 10. This is safer and does not change the landscape. It is just over a kilometre shorter. You will pass close to Stang Bihan.
If this suits you, it would be better for hikers (who could come in greater numbers).
Sincerely, M Tromelin (29)

A very beautiful walk. It allowed us to discover a small, secluded beach that was absolutely adorable.
