The Badailhac plateau
A mountain bike ride with no major difficulties. This route offers beautiful views over the Cère Valley, the Goul Valley and the Cantal Mountains. The most challenging section is over the last two kilometres!
Rocher des Pendus
Quick access to an orientation board offering a view of the town of Vic-sur-Cère and its valley.
"Mountains" route in Pailherols
The Montagnes are isolated burons (shepherd's huts) on the Carladès summer pastures. This easy walk offers views of the typical landscapes of this Auvergne high plateau.
Discover Vic-sur-Cère along the water
A discovery walk through the old centre of Vic-sur-Cère, up the Iraliot to the Trou de la Conche waterfall, extended by a circular route along the Bras de la Cère to discover a forgotten mineral water spring.
The Rock of Saint-Curiat
From Vic-sur-Cère, climb up to the Coyan Plateau, passing several viewpoints: over Vic and the Cère valley, then over the plateau and the more distant mountain ranges. The route passes by the Rocher de Saint-Curiat, an ancient hermitage, and the Grotte des Anglais, a former shelter for Huguenots. In 2023, the trail between (8) and (2) via the Grotte des Anglais is closed due to rockfall. Until further notice, it is still possible to make a round trip to (7) or (8).
Rocher de Maisonne - Trou de la Conche waterfall
A short walk along a steep path that climbs sharply to the Rocher de Maisonne with its cross. This spot offers a superb view of the town of Vic-sur-Cère and the Cère valley, and the detour to the Trou de la Conche waterfall provides a refreshing haven.
From Lacapelle-Barrès to Malbo and back, around the Siniq valley
A beautiful walk along a ridge above a lush green valley. Superb views over the Cantal plateau. The route generally follows the contour lines, though there are still a few steep ascents and descents.
The Pas de Cère Gorges
A lovely, short round-trip walk through the Gorges de la Cère with no major difficulties. The path is a bit steep on the way down into the gorges (and back up again), so make sure you wear suitable footwear as the ground can be slippery after rain and there are plenty of roots and rocks. The walk is shaded and takes you through some very pretty gorges, which are less developed but just as beautiful as the better-known Jordanne Gorges in the neighbouring valley.
Le Puy Gros via the burons
A circular route starting from the Buron de la Tuillière, passing through Puy Gros, whilst avoiding theGR® trails as much as possible, as they are very busy in summer.
The numerous burons encountered along the route offer some lovely moments.
This hike is for experienced walkers only (navigation, livestock, barbed wire).
Please note: you will be crossing pastures with cows and bulls. So please take care (dogs, children, etc.). And don’t forget to close the gates behind you.
Short circular loop above Velzic
A short but pretty circular route in a secluded valley, with landscapes typical of the Jordanne Valley – green and rolling. Unmarked, but no difficulty in finding your way.
The Roman de Jordanne
An interesting low-altitude hike above and in the Jordanne valley. Enjoy beautiful green landscapes typical of the Cantal region. Pass through pretty little hamlets with old buildings. Peaceful and natural.
Le Puy Gros and the Sources du Goul
A beautiful walk along the Cantalian ridges. Open landscapes and magnificent views. To be done in good weather.
Thiézac – Mandailles
Stage3 of theGR®400, clockwise.
A fairly peaceful stage with a short climb up the Elancèze, offering a stunning view of the peaks and the previous day’s route.
Chaos de Casteltinet
This route takes you on a stroll through the woodland at the Chaos de Casteltinet site, formed by a rockslide characterised by piles of boulders. Walking along these paths allows you to explore this magnificent spot, not forgetting the passage through the ‘portal’ of the Porte du Lion.
A quote from L. Delhostal that sums up the place perfectly:
The ancient giants rooted in the earth
Seem like strange warriors,
The last vestiges of a war
Terrifying war of the Titans.
Niervèze and Chaos de Casteltinet
A walk in the mountains among cows and typical Cantal landscapes. Niervèze, a lively mountain village, and the geological curiosity of Chaos de Casteltinet and its impressive Lion's Gate are on the programme. Yellow markings.
