Description of the walk

Start from the Col de Curebourse on the D54. There is a small car park at the corner of the four-way junction.

(S/E) Proceed with caution along the Route des Montagnes (D54) for a few metres, until you reach the private car park opposite the hotel

(1) Cross the car park and take the path that follows the edge of the woods. The slope rises moderately through the undergrowth and, after a right-hand bend, reaches the Rocher des Pendus viewing platform.

(2) Once you’ve enjoyed the view, return to the car park by following the path back the way you came (S/E).

Notes

In the Middle Ages, this rock was the site of execution for those sentenced to hanging who had been tried in the bailiwick of Vic-sur-Cère. Metal hooks were fixed to the rock face, with a rope attached to each hook. The condemned person, after taking a final look at this sublime panorama, was hurled into the void.
