Schnacka

A delightful walk on the outskirts of the city, allowing you to explore the banks of the Ill and the ponds that lend a wild, natural feel to this urban area. You’ll spot plenty of birds (small passerines, geese and seagulls) as well as signs of beavers. An easy walk to enjoy in any season, though undoubtedly more pleasant in summer and in dry weather (paths can get muddy in places). You can get there and back on the E tram from the city centre.

This is a beautiful hike through lovely forests and magnificent meadows, offering superb views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. You will also discover a whole chapter of the history of Alsace-Moselle: the German occupation from 1870 to 1918, as well as the battles of theFirst World War that took place in the Vosges. The hike presents no difficulty other than a few hundred metres with a 15% gradient after the Col de Sainte-Marie.

This hike covers both sides of the ridge separating the Stosswhir valley and the Metzeral valley, offering views of the ridges, the Col de la Schlucht and the Trois Fours on the way there, and the Petit Ballon massif and the Schnepfenried on the way back. Numerous ruins from the First World War dot both sides of this ridge, which was the dividing line between French and German troops. Eight thousand five hundred men died on these slopes.

This is a beautiful hike from Ammerschwihr to Trois-Épis via the Christ du Galtz, which overlooks the Alsace plain. Enjoy lovely views of the plain and discover the resort of Trois Épis, which was once a holiday destination for Alsatians and still boasts some beautiful residences.

A lovely, easy walk that takes you from vineyards to woodland, allowing you to explore this promontory between the Kaysersberg valley and Ammerschwihr. At the end of the route, you can admire the little Saint-Wolfgang Chapel in Kaysersberg, as well as magnificent views of the plain and Ammerschwihr.

An easy walk that takes you through the Vallon du Limbach and its moss-covered forests, which have unfortunately suffered greatly from various storms. The upper section of the route takes you through beautiful mixed woodland, with conifers, oaks and beech trees. Suitable for all seasons but ideal on a warm, sunny day, as the valley is very shaded. The rest of the route is also in the shade of tall trees.

This is a classic route that will take you past magnificent castles set on granite bases, offering beautiful views of the plain and even the Alps if the weather is favourable. Halfway along the route, the little Huhnelmuhle inn is a great place to stop for a bite to eat in a very friendly atmosphere. The return journey takes you through the vineyards.

This is a lovely walk with no particular difficulties, offering beautiful views of the Val d’Orbey, the Munster Valley and the Vosges ridges. Winding through woods and stubble fields, the route takes you from lake to lake to the Schupferen farmhouse inn, where you can enjoy a delicious break with the world’s best Fleischnacka! The welcome is lovely. Booking is essential, as the inn is small. The return journey is mainly downhill, which is very pleasant after a meal at the farmhouse inn.

This is a beautiful hike that climbs along the Petite Fecht, offering views of the Stolz Ablass waterfalls, then the Frankenthal and its peat bog. The return journey is via the Gaschney, taking the Bloye trail.

This hike is not particularly difficult and follows wide forest paths, offering beautiful views of the Metzeral valley, the Alsace plain and the Black Forest in the distance on the way there. On the way back, you can enjoy views of the Col de la Schlucht and the ridges. The hike can be rounded off with a stop at the Schallern Restaurant or the Gaschney farmhouse inn.

A very beautiful walk that takes you along ridges with views of the Munster Valley and the Alsace Plain on the Vosges side, with its rolling hills and forests offering a palette of greens, at least in spring. In good weather, you can see the Alps!

Please note that the circular route starting from (5) is closed to traffic from 1 December to 30 June, to ensure the animals’ peace and quiet. It is essential to comply with this ban. A pleasant walk which, in addition to the scenery of the Hautes Vosges, allows you to discover the fifth highest peak in the Vosges. The route passes through magnificent beech forests in places, and the stop at two farmhouse inns is a definite highlight.
