Views of the Trois Solliès and Coudon mountains via the GR®51 and the Tourris trail.

From the heights of Solliès-Ville, enjoy magnificent views of Toulon harbour, the Coudon massif, the Cuers plain and the hamlet of Vallaury.
The route includes some fairly technical, rocky, stony sections with steep gradients, where it is best to watch your step. These sections can become tiresome and spoil the fun a little, hence the difficult level.

Description of the walk

Drive up to Solliès-Ville from La Farlède and park at the western exit of the village (car park near the roundabout with the D61).

(S/E) Head east, go around the roundabout on the left and follow the D67. You are now on theGR®51(red and white markings). When you reach the school, take a sharp right onto Chemin des Gaches.

(1) At the first hairpin bend, leave this road and take the small stony path heading south-west. This path sets the tone right from the start: it's uphill. You are still on theGR®51.

(2) After 400 metres, leave theGR®51and take a path that climbs to the left. You will reach the Notre-Dame-du-Deffens Chapel at the foot of a relay antenna.

(3) Head west on a wide, stony descent towards Aire du Verdan. Shortly before the crossroads, you will rejoin theGR®51.

(4) Cross the Route des Selves and continue straight ahead, leaving the reservoir on your right. Head west along theGR®51. The climb through the woods is relatively technical.

(5) After about 1.7km, at the cistern, leave theGR®51and turn right onto the Piste de Tourris, which is a much more passable path. Pass under a power line, ignore a path on the left and follow the track to the north-west. Caution: the descent is slippery and stony. Walk along the left side of a military training ground. Continue north-west.

(6) At the crossroads, turn right. Head north then north-west.

(7) You will come out onto a tarmac forest road. Follow it to the right
(caution, traffic). You are now back on theGR® 51.

(8) In a sharp left-hand bend, take the small rocky path diagonally to the right that descends (beautiful view of the Vallaury valley). Descend with theGR® (technical passage).

(9) You will come out onto the Piste de Vallaury in Solliès-Ville and turn right onto it. Follow this wide, clean and easy-going track for 5km, still on theGR®51.

(10) Leave the track and turn right onto a small steep path. This is still the Piste de Vallaury in Solliès-Ville, but it leaves the wide track to climb the hill and cross to the other side.

(11) Reach the Route des Selves and turn left
(be careful, there is traffic). Stay on this main road, following theGR®51, ignore any side roads and you will reach the car park where you started (S/E).

This hike is described as difficult, but I don't really see why... I've rarely been so bored on a hike... there's little or no scenery, the chapel is walled up... and to top it all off, there are 8 km of tracks and tarmac roads... I'm still looking for the technical sections.
In short, I didn't like it at all.

Overall disappointing. Yet it all starts well with a climb that is not too difficult or too long to reach the chapel (nothing special) but above all the viewpoint over the Giens peninsula. After that, there are some beautiful views of Le Coudon and Porquerolles.
After a second, well-shaded climb, everything goes downhill, starting with two long descents on rather treacherous tracks to reach a plain of little interest, apart from the view of the Cuers bar. After a stretch on the road (very beautiful olive trees), we reach another dangerous descent, like a dry riverbed, very long and uninteresting.
Then there are 5 km of track, which is relaxing but a little tedious.
And to finish, we take a road where there are no facilities for pedestrians despite the traffic. In conclusion, not recommended for groups of a "certain age" because of the slippery descents. That's us! It should also be noted that the GR 51, which we follow for a long time, is practically unmarked, which is rare for a GR! However, thanks to the author for allowing me to discover an area I didn't know.

A lovely hike with magnificent panoramic views. Not too difficult. Be prepared for the 16 km before setting off.

The first part of the hike on the GR51 is pleasant. A narrow path provides superb views of the coast and Le Coudon. As soon as we reached the Touris trail, the hike lost its charm. A wide trail winds down to the road leading to the Siou Blanc plateau. The small path taken at the hairpin bend is quite nice, but as soon as we reach the trail (GR51), it loses its appeal. This trail is long and the view of Vallaury, a small hamlet that is no longer a hamlet, is not great. The end of the hike is on the road, so it's not great.

We found this hike uninteresting in terms of views, but it was a good route
for training on different terrains (beautiful climbs, beautiful descents on rocky ground and flat sections in full sun).

A lovely walk that we found to be fairly easy (no navigation issues, clear explanations, easy route). The little chapel is not in very good condition, especially the tiled roof (be careful in windy weather when you see all the tiles on the ground!). There is quite a bit of walking on tracks, which can seem a bit long at times. From time to time, there are lovely views of Le Coudon, Barres de Cuers and the Hyères Islands. In the distance, you can see the snow-capped Alps.
The so-called "technical" sections seemed straightforward to us, but I suppose it's all relative.
At the end, the author warns that walking on the road is dangerous, and we found this to be true: there is no space for pedestrians, you have to walk on the road, and there is traffic.
