The start of the walk is on the D282 at the end of the hairpin bend, just before you reach Cornuscle. To get there from Le Cheylard, take the D578 (towards Vals-les-Bains, Mézilhac). On leaving Mariac, turn right just before the bridge over the Dorne. Drive through the village of Pont-de-Fromentières and take the road on the right just after the bakery towards Girond and Cornuscle. The hairpin bend is 5.5 km further on. Park just after it on the left.
(S/E) Retrace your steps a few metres and take the path (markedGR®) in the hairpin bend, heading north-east. Walk for about 150m until you reach a small pass.
(1) Leave theGR® trail and take the path that climbs slightly to the right over basalt rock. This is the oldGR® route, so don't be surprised to see markings here. You are walking on a basalt flow, below a small hill called Lacham. Continue until you almost reach a new small pass. Just before it, turn left to climb to the top of Lacham, a mere 20 metres in elevation. To do this, follow the paths made by goats and sheep.
(2) At the summit, you will have a panoramic view of all the Boutières. Descend by the same route to the small pass where you will find theGR® trail. Follow it for about 350 metres. Pass through a gate that is in more or less good condition.
(3) Take the path on your right.
(4) About 200 metres further on, at the end of a bend, look to your left and you should see some imposing granite rock formations (several metres high) in the forest. Leave the path and climb up towards these rocks.
At the foot of the rocks, take the path on the left (the path goes around the back of the rocks) and follow it to an intersection. Take the path opposite. It slopes gently downhill until it joins another path.
(5) Take this path on the right. It leads to Chadenac de l'Ubac and then to Chadenac de l'Adret. At Chadenac de l'Adret, take the road on the left at the hairpin bend.
(6) 50 metres further on, there is a gate on the left that opens onto a meadow. Go through it (don't forget to close it behind you) and take the path that climbs towards the three houses on the left. At this point, the path is not very visible. Use the group of houses as a landmark; the path runs alongside them, just above.
Follow the path, which is quite difficult to walk on due to the stones (it is in dire need of maintenance). Continue along this path, which climbs steadily towards the pass. You will come to a fence across the path. As this is a registered path, there should be a gate, so please let the shepherd know if you see him. The sheep fence is easy to climb over.
Continue along the track, which shortly afterwards veers a few metres to the left of the registered path, as the latter is blocked by brambles. The track is fairly easy to follow, with the destination being a white cross at the pass.
(7) Just before the pass, take theGR® on your left for about 150 metres.
(8) Then turn right onto a track. A few metres before the hut, leave the track and climb towards the summit of Serre de Jusclas (there is no path, but it is very passable, with an elevation gain of about 40 metres).
(9) At the summit, the 360° view is extraordinary. On a very clear day, you can see Mont Blanc.
Descend tothe GR® via the same path.
(8) Turn right. Then follow theGR® for a little over 3km until you reach the Rocherine crossroads.
(3) Retrace your steps, staying on theGR® to return to the starting point (S/E).
