In the village of Borée, there are a few parking spaces available near the church, near the cemetery, and near the Mexican restaurant, but be careful on Fridays, market day, as you will have to park at the side of the road, causing as little obstruction to traffic as possible.
Departure from the church.
(S/E) Head towards the large crossroads in the centre of the village, turn right towards Chanéac, without taking the road that turns sharply to the right. Pass in front of the Mexican restaurant (pink scooter). Further on, follow a smaller road on the left.
(1) Leave the road and follow a stony dirt track through the woods on the right, marked with yellow and whiteGRP®® signs. Further up, the path leaves the woods and becomes more grassy.
(2) At the intersection (La Prêle signpost), turn left towards Chanéac. The path stays on the ridge for a while, then continues along the Azette valley, offering beautiful views. At a barrier, turn onto the path on the right. Pass over the heights of the Ravin des Blaches.
(3) Pass through a metal gate at the Route des Crête sign, marked in yellow. Now walk down a narrow path. Cross a wood, then return to a more open environment as the descent continues.
(4) At the "Lachamp de Serres" signpost, turn left towards La Rochette, marked in yellow andGRP®®. At the Suc des Allertes signpost, continue straight on towards La Rochette, on a path through the woods. As you leave the woods, enjoy the views over the Saliouse valley from this balcony path.
(5) At the T-junction, continue left, following the yellow markings. You will come to a small grassy road; follow it to the right. Pick up a few stones, which may be useful in defending your right of way at the hamlet of Reynaud, where there is a vicious dog. The road offers views over the Saliouse valley and Mont Mézenc.
(6) Reynaud signpost, just after passing the entrance to the farm guarded by the dog, continue along the road towards La Rochette. At a fork in the road, take the right-hand road, leaving the hamlet of Tempoyrac on your left.
(7) La Rochette Sud marker. Push open a metal gate and follow the path on the left towards Borée. Ignore a path on the left immediately after. Be careful, as this path through the undergrowth on a steep slope is sometimes very narrow. Further on, go through another gate. Ignore a path on the right further on. At the edge of the woods, there are beautiful views of the Cirque des Boutières. Go through an electric fence.
(8) Stream. Be sure to follow theGRP®® markings. Cross the stream and then veer slightly to the left to climb up a field. Cross it off the trail, following the markings on wooden posts at intervals. Pass to the left of the grove of trees. Further up, you will find a well-marked trail. Pass through an electric fence.
(9) Hameau le Bois, continue straight ahead on the road, which joins a wider road further on. Follow it to the left to make a hairpin bend.
(10) Please note: Here we followed the oldGRP®® route, as shown on the IGN map (which is not up to date). This path is still visible but is heavily overgrown. It is possible to return to Borée by following the newGRP®® route, which continues along the road.
About 150 m after the hairpin bend, look for a pile of large stones on the left side of the road. Cross some simple ropes to reach a path visible to the left of these rocks. Continue along this path, which is still visible, although very overgrown. Note some old GRP®® markings. Further up, in the undergrowth, the path becomes easier to follow. You will arrive at a pretty carved stone cross.
(11) Turn right onto a path that is heavily overgrown (if this path no longer seems passable, see the alternative in Practical Information). Join a road, follow it to the left and return to the village of Borée (S/E).
