Villefranche-sur-Mer walks

This hike, starting from the Col des Quatre Chemins, will take you along a cliffside trail above the Paillon Valley to the Plateau de la Justice. After a panoramic section via Mont Fourche and Mont Leuze, you will descend towards the Grande Corniche to return to the starting point.

This hike, which can be started from various points along the route, will take you through the Mont-Boron massif, passing by Fort du Mont-Alban, the residential neighbourhoods of Villefranche and the coastal path from the Villefranche-sur-Mer dock to the port of Nice, via Pointe des Sans-Culottes and Cap de Nice. This hike through urban, forest and coastal environments will give your calves a good workout thanks to the numerous staircases!

In 2012 the Cap Ferrat peninsula was named as the second most expensive residential location in the world after Monaco!! This walk takes you around it’s beautiful coastal path, with stunning views out into the Mediterranean. You will pass countless sets of stone steps on your way round, tempting you down towards the turquoise waters of the peninsula’s many hidden coves and bays.

Starting from Old Nice, this circuit allows you to discover Mont Boron, known for its many panoramic views of the city, the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer and Cap Ferrat. The return trip along the coastal path is charming and, depending on the season, you can even go for a swim.

A classic on the Marais coast, this coastal walk takes you around Pointe Sainte-Hospice and Cap-Ferrat. Ideal for a sunny day out of season. Please note that the path is partially closed. See practical information.

An easy and refreshing hike just a few minutes from Nice, offering unusual views of the coastline and overlooking the bay of Villefranche and Beaulieu. A steep but safe passage adds a little spice to the final switchbacks. Best done in spring or autumn to enjoy the sea. This route is not suitable for people who suffer from vertigo. This walk takes you along the entire length of the promenade in Nice, between the harbour and Parc Phoenix next to the airport. You will also explore Castle Hill Park (Parc de la Colline du Château), a 19 hectare maze of greenery perched high up above Nice old town, with many areas to be discovered including an impressive waterfall.

A loop starting from Eze Bord de Mer, climbing up to the village of Eze via the Frédéric Nietzsche trail, then ascending Mont Bastide via the David trail for a superb view of Cap Ferrat and the Nice hinterland. Descend via the Savaric trail through the beautiful villas of Eze Bord de Mer.

A hike in a wild and uncrowded area, yet very close to Nice. You will discover the Plateau Tercier with its panoramic view of the Paillons valleys, the Mercantour and the heights of Nice, as well as a small ruined castle colonised by vegetation: the Castello de Soanès.

A few kilometres from Nice, Mont Chauve d'Aspremont and its neighbour Mont Chauve de Tourette offer magnificent views to the south: Nice, the Baie des Anges and the Mediterranean, but also to the north with the Alps and the Mercantour.

From the start of this walk, a paved slanting street winds its way at the foot of the Rastel rock massif, offering magnificent views of the old medieval village of Peillon. The entire return trail between the villages of Peille and Peillon, on the western side of Rastel, is a delightful walk through wooded areas.

A short hike in the Nice hinterland offering beautiful views of the mountains and the coastline. A route that is not too steep and suitable for trail running.

Stop, take photos, observe and take breaks. Whatever you do, take the time to appreciate each side of Mont Agel, which offers magical, exceptional panoramic views. To the north are the Mercantour Alps. To the east and south-east are Menton and the Ligurian Riviera. To the west are the Pre-Alps of the Côte d'Azur and the coastline from Nice to Théoule.

This circular loop above Gattières runs along the eastern slopes of La Bessière (818 m) and Le Pességuier (902 m), alongside the Canal de la Gravière. It allows you to explore the village and offers beautiful views of olive groves, the Var plain, the Bellet vineyards and the peaks of the Mercantour.

An easy walk, mostly along the coast on the customs officers' path between Monaco and Menton, which runs along the Bay of Roquebrune with the beautiful Buse beach and goes around Cap Martin.

This walk in the hills above Roquebrune-Cap-Martin will take you to the summit of Mont Gros, a popular take-off point for paragliders flying over the Principality of Monaco. The view from the take-off point over the principality and the Mediterranean is breathtaking. A descent to the south of Mont Gros will allow you to complete a circular route via a balcony path above Cabbé Bay and Cap Martin.

A double loop in a landscape combining heath, karst plateau and numerous dry stone terraces. The climb up the two baous offers exceptional views of the coastline from Cap Ferrat to Cap d'Antibes... not to mention the view of the hinterland from the Baou de Saint-Jeannet with the Saint-Barnabé plateau, the Cherion Massif and the peaks of the Mercantour between the Argentera and Mont Bégo. Return via the Plateau du Baou, where you can discover two drystone shelters.

An easy hike in spring or autumn. At the top of the Baou, there is a magnificent view of the French Riviera with a very accurate orientation table to identify the points along the coast and the surrounding peaks.

This lovely little walk, via the Riou trail, will take you to the banks of a pretty river, La Cagne. Young and old alike can enjoy the deep pools and waterfalls. A geographical curiosity. A bucolic and informative stroll in the back country of Nice.

This hike starts in the hilltop village of Le Broc and takes you to the Monséguise plateau, which offers a rare view of the Alpes-Maritimes. After a gradual climb through the Vallon de la Sine, you reach the plateau via a short climb along the "piste du gaz". At the top, you can see the Mediterranean, from the Estérel to nearby Nice, and the peaks of the Nice hinterland as far as the Mercantour! On the descent, there are numerous views of the hilltop villages of the Nice hinterland.

A circular hike starting from the charming village of Le Broc. A steep climb through the forest leads to the buried Gravière canal, which you follow along a track through the woods before reaching a clear view of Mont Vial and the Mercantour near the hamlet of Les Combes. The climb up the Mouton d'Anou via a track and then a narrow path offers a beautiful 360° panorama from Cap d'Antibes to Mercantour. The descent is via a pleasant path through the woods.

A beautiful climb to the Cime de Baudon from the hilltop village of Sainte-Agnès. The summit offers exceptional 360° views of the entire region, particularly Menton, but also other towns along the coast and numerous mountain peaks.

A beautiful hike combining sightseeing, physical exercise and the discovery of Sainte-Agnès, the highest coastal village in Europe. The Borrigo Waterfall, this alpine trail and the duty to remember with a visit to the Maginot Line fort will round off a wonderful day.

Loop hike above Sainte-Agnès with the ascent of three peaks that do not present any difficulties: the Pointe de Siricocca (and its fort-sheepfold), the Pic de Garuche (and its bunker) and the Mont Ours (and its DFCI guard post at the top of a white oak forest). Diverse panoramic views of the coast, the Mercantour and the Nice hinterland.

From Col des Banquettes, this beautiful circular hike takes you to Ravin de Verroux, Ravin de Merthéa and Ruisseau du Borrigo. It also gives you the opportunity to pass by numerous fortifications overlooking the valleys below. From Pointe Siricocca, you can admire Menton and the village of Sainte-Agnès.

A beautiful walk starting from the station in the charming village of Touët de l'Escarène around Mont Panard, mostly through undergrowth. After crossing the tracks of the Train des Merveilles, the route climbs up the left bank of the Ravin d'Estiou and winds clockwise around Mont Panard. Beautiful views of the Mercantour peaks, the rocks of Saint Sauveur and Mont Brec.

The ascent of Mont Férion from Levens offers a superb panorama of the coast and the peaks of the Estéron. When you reach the ridge, you will pass by the surprising Chapelle Saint-Michel-des-Cèdres in the heart of a small conifer forest. The summit offers views of the Paillons landscape and the peaks of the Mercantour between two trees.

This circular hike, starting from the Pont de l'Estéron, takes you along this pretty river with its turquoise waters before climbing into the forest alongside a small stream and joining small isolated roads towards the Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite (17th century). The descent is via a pretty path overlooking the Estéron, offering some beautiful views towards the Plaine du Var at the end. This circuit can also be done in the opposite direction, ending with the section along the river.

A very beautiful and varied hike on the outskirts of Nice, with a less frequented first section on paved slanting street paths. The climb up the small pass of Saint-André offers magnificent 360° panoramic views. A bountiful natural environment in every season and a cultural heritage waiting to be discovered.

Trace, in reverse, of the largest lap inside the Parc Départemental de l'Ubac Foran, in Menton. Following this route, you'll take the ascent, passing through shady areas and undergrowth with enough room for one person to pass, then a descent on a wide, sunny track.

A beautiful walk in the Mediterranean hinterland. Between forests and rocks, with traces of history (forts and fortifications from the Maginot Line!) A variety of views between the sea and the mountains.

Gilette and La Clue. From the village of Gillette, perched on a rocky outcrop, this walk takes you to the medieval bridge of La Cerise (scenes from the film "The Hunchback" were shot here in 1997) and then winds through the Estéron gorges.
