If you are travelling by car, park in the car park on the left as you drive up Avenue de Gairaut, just before a sharp left-hand bend. If you are coming by bus (no. 25, 63 or 76), get off at the Auberge du Tortéo stop.
(S/E) From the car park, cross Avenue de Gairaut and climb the stairs of Chemin du Tortéo to a small cul-de-sac. Turn right to reach the Vieux Chemin de Gairaut.
Walk down the road for a few metres and join the Canal de Gairaut on the left, entering this municipal public park through a green gate.
(1) Walk along the canal following the footpath to reach the crossroads at the fire brigade turning area.
(2) Continue left along the canal, passing olive trees and villas with views of the town and the sea. At the end of the path, you will reach the point where the canal goes underground again.
(3) Turn around and follow the canal to the fire brigade turning area a few metres after the fountain closest to the park entrance.
(2) At this wider space, just before the right-hand bend, take the path that descends to the left of the olive tree to reach Avenue de Gairaut below.
Continue left on the pavement at the side of the road and cross it to go down a staircase on the right before the bend. When you reach this avenue at the two restaurants, continue right on the pavement.
(4) At the entrance to the second left-hand bend, turn right onto the Raccourci de l'Église de Gairaut, a staircase under the oak trees.
(5) When you reach the church square, take the stairs on the left that lead up to the Gairaut Waterfall and the old caretaker's house, which is so characteristic.
Just before the waterfall, take the stairs on the left to pass through the arches under the house and descend on the other side of the waterfall.
Continue along the road and then descend the path on the right to return to the car park at the starting point (S/E)
We hiked this route last autumn. It was organised by friends.
