Start from the car park at the entrance to the village of Le Colombier, coming from Espeluche.
(S/E) Take the path leading down towards the Citelles stream, cross the ford at the designated crossing and then climb up the opposite slope. Ignore a side path on the left (return route) and continue to a fork.
(1) Turn right onto a virtually flat path. Enjoy the view of Rochefort-en-Valdaine Castle on the hill to your right. Follow the edge of a cultivated area on your right, reach the corner of the next field and find a faint, downhill path on the right.
(2) Follow this path, which is barely visible at first but then becomes a small track. Continue along this track until you reach a road, at the bridge over the Citelles.
(3) Turn left (D4) and join Chemin de Jamot, on the left, at the corner of no. 1715.
(4) Take this track and follow it for about 3 km; it is gently sloping and somewhat stony. Ignore the turn-offs to the right until you reach a DFCI track on the plateau.
(5) Head straight on until you reach the next three-way junction.
(6) Turn left and head towards the first wind turbine.
(7) Enjoy the first viewpoint, then continue along the wide track to the penultimate wind turbine. Head to the edge of the cliff on your left.
(8) After enjoying the view, continue along the track, passing a radar dome, and reach a road.
(9) Walk a few metres to the left, then take the track on the right. You’ll reach another wind farm; walk as close as possible to the wind turbines. At the last one, turn right downhill and you’ll reach a large junction where tracks meet a road.
(10) Cross the main road and take the Chemin de Citelles, immediately after, on the left. A steep descent on tarmac or concrete, with hidden puddles that can catch you out. Reach the chapel (closed) at the bottom of the descent andcontinue along the small road. Cross the concrete ford with care, reach the hamlet and the private property with the footpath below it (overgrown with vegetation in May 2026).
(11) To go round the private property, turn uphill to the right, then left, pass between the houses and continue straight on along the grassy path. Descend quickly and join the footpath at the bottom. Continue to the right and head along the path at the bottom of the valley, which widens as you go. After crossing the Citelles riverbed four times, you’ll reach a track suitable for vehicles at the first house you come to.
(12) Continue along the track to reach the hamlet of Moulin de Bay with its picnic area on the banks of the Citelles (table).
(13) Continue along the track, which turns into a small road, and arrive at a fork at the bridge over the Citelles.
(14) Cross the bridge then turn immediately right onto Chemin de Piérond. Pass the house then continue along the path which climbs to the left a few metres further on. Ignore a side track to the left and, after a right-hand bend, carry on almost level. After the left-hand bend and the pipeline signposts, look for a discreet path at the end of the field on the right-hand side which descends to the right.
(15) Follow it downhill along the field, then through the undergrowth alongside a wire fence, until you reach a small path in the stream (access to the water intake). Turn right onto this path, rejoin the route you have already taken, head downhill to the right and arrive at the car park in the village of Le Colombier (S/E).
