Description of the route

Mountain bike route no. 2.

(S/E) From the Espace Sévigné (village hall) in Grignan, cross the village, going round to the left, and continue straight on to join the D541.

(1) Turn right onto the D541, then take a steep climb to the left; continue until you reach a path on the right leading to a road, then carry on straight ahead.

(2) Take the fun single track through the oak trees opposite, then at the end turn right for 200m, pass under a power line and then head down a stony path on the left.

(3) At a fork, turn right and head straight up, then take a descending path on the left, passing in front of the Saint-Barthélémy Chapel to reach the village of Chamaret.

(4) Cross the road and continue straight on, then turn left, heading due south, between low stone walls, to reach a path lined with fields of lavender.

(5) Continue straight on, passing ‘les cheminées’, then follow a pleasant path along the banks of the Lez.

(6) Turn right, heading due west, to follow the edge of the fields, climb up to a road, turn right (157m), then continue straight on, heading due north.

(7) Take a path on the right, then head into the woods along a single track, reaching the hamlet of Eymieu, then the D71.

(8) Cross the road carefully and follow a path opposite the Chamaret Tower, then take small roads. Head towards Les Paluds, where you will walk alongside cultivated fields, and continue towards the high-voltage power lines.

(9) Turn right, follow the high-voltage power line and continue straight on. Cross the D71 and reach the hilltop (185m).

(10) Turn left onto a lovely path to reach ‘La Grotte de Rochecourbière’, then reach the D541.

(11) Turn right, then left past the tennis courts. Head towards the Espace Sévigné (village hall) (S/E).

A lovely route with varied scenery: lavender fields, vineyards, truffle fields, woodland, and old farmhouses (some renovated, some not!). The shaded sections are particularly welcome. Several sections of the route follow the old Taulignan-Grignan-Chamaret railway line (signposted). We did it on Ascension weekend in the morning, on a ‘human-powered’ bike, and we came across very few people.

A really lovely and varied route, which we completed with two children aged 7 and 9 without any difficulty. Expect a bit more of an elevation gain (197m+). We certainly weren’t disappointed by this route, which is very family-friendly!
