Park in the Bourdalès car park before the end of the Lys Valley road, near the inn.
(S) Walk past the inn, turn left to cross the stream via the bridge, then turn right onto the wide path.
(1) Take the path on the left which crosses the meadow and soon enters the forest. Climb through this superb beech forest and reach the crossroads at the foot of the Pré de l'Artigue.
(2) Turn left to begin the steep climb up this grassy meadow. Continue along the stony and occasionally rutted path, whose steep gradient will leave you breathless and your legs aching. On the left, the beautiful Houradade Waterfall offers a chance for a break and a brief moment of respite before resuming the climb to the junction just before the Cabane de la Coume, which is hidden from view as it sits above the rocky outcrop.
(3) Turn right to cross the torrent. Cross several small streams, including the one that serves as the outlet for Lac Vert, and continue towards the Cabane de Pratlong. On leaving the woods, turn left, leaving the hut in question on your right, as well as the Prat Long station building situated at the penstock.
(4) Ignore the path on the left leading to Lac Vert and continue to the right. You will then begin the steep, winding ascent leading to the pumping station, where a break will be welcome before the final stretch.
(5) Resume the ascent. After a few hairpin bends, ignore the path on the left leading to Lac Bleu, continue to the right and then pass under the penstock that supplies the Lys power station. You will soon reach the Refuge du Maupas (E).
