Car park at the Lacs de la Folie site in Contrexéville.
(S/E) This route is almost entirely shared with routes nos. 20, 21 and 23 and, at the very start, with route no. 2. Opposite the starting sign, take the path that runs along the lake to the left. Let route no. 2 branch off to the right and continue until you reach a bend.
(1) Turn left to cross the small bridge and reach a Fork in the road.
(2) Turn right onto the short, straight path. Keep to the left as you follow the wide, ascending trench (gas pipeline route). After marker no. 42, take the small, ascending path on the right. Continuing on, enter the lane. Pass the tarmac road on your right until you reach a crossroads.
(3) Turn left into the coniferous woodland. At the end, turn right. Take the gravel forest track on the right. At the end of this, head straight down a small path which quickly veers to the left. Cross a wide lane. Opposite, the path turns left after a small ditch, which it follows before turning right as it approaches the lake.
(4) At the end of this path, continue to the left. Walk partly round the lake until you reach a crossroads.
(5) Let route no. 20 go straight ahead, and turn left. Turn right at a junction of forest tracks to reach another fork.
(6) Leave the main track, letting route no. 21 continue straight ahead. Walk along the edge of the woodland. Cross the D13 and take the old road opposite. Turn left onto the grassy track leading to the entrance to the village of Outrancourt. Take the D13d to the right.
(7) Turn right towards Ruelle de l’Abreuvoir, follow it, then rejoin the D13d on the right. Cross the bridge over the River Vair, then turn right twice to continue towards Contrexéville. Pass under a small railway bridge. When you reach the main road, take the pavement on the right towards the town centre, then turn right again to join the D164 at a park.
(8) Turn left and enter the Parc Thermal. Keep left to go round the tennis courts and walk the length of the park to reach the end of the Galerie Thermale, crossing Rue de la Victoire.
(9) Turn right twice to cross the Parc Thermal again, keeping to the left. Turn left when you reach the second road. Go under the railway bridge and follow the D164. At the traffic lights, cross the D13, turn right and then immediately left, taking the small Allée des Lacs and Rue de Châtillon. You’ll reach the Route des Lacs on your right. Continue straight ahead, go under the bridge and you’ll come to a fork in the road.
(10) Head into the forest on the right, then turn left to go downhill and join the lakeside walk on the left. Carry on straight ahead, then return to the start by taking the dividing embankment on the right (S/E).
