Park in the car park at the Faz cross-country ski centre.
(S/E) Take the small road eastwards, running alongside the centre for a few metres, then turn onto the path leading down to the right. The signposted direction is “Fontaine de Pétouze”. This path is lined with magnificent box trees and heads south. Continue to the path junction at Scialet Cogne.
(1) Leave the main path and head up to the left along a track that is unmarked but visible. It is rarely used, so there are no tracks. Very soon, you will reach some ruins.
(2) Continue climbing and stay firmly on the path, which is still barely marked or unmarked. Progress is easier if you follow the trail, heading south-southeast. If you stray from it, don’t worry—you can easily find it again by heading left. The landscape on the right is magnificent. As you climb, you’ll reach a path junction; continue straight ahead (not the path coming from the left) and a few metres further on, don’t take the one going down to the right but continue keeping to the left to begin a gentle descent. Head eastwards to the junction of the Combe de Ravassière and the Fontaine de Pétouze path.
(3) Turn right onto the Combe de Ravassière path, which takes you down a very long but very pretty descent through boxwood trees. Depending on the season, their scent is intoxicating. You’ll reach a junction of several paths just before the hamlet of Bournet.
(4) Stay on this path heading west and, after about a hundred metres, turn 90° to the right. Heading due north, follow the signposts along a gently sloping meadow to reach the houses of Courtin.
Go round them on the left, taking the road for a few metres. Reach the hairpin bend.
(5) Leave the road and take the path opposite; turn right at the next junction onto the yellow-green marked trail. Climb gently through the woods. The direction is almost due north and leads back to the original junction.
(1) Turn left and follow the route you took on the way out to return to the car park (S/E).
