The starting point for this hike is in the car park mainly intended for hikers, almost opposite the church. View of the church tower and the lantern of the dead, which can be seen more closely later on, at the end of the hike.
(S/E) Head towards the white stone cross at the edge of a tarmac road. Continue for about 100 metres along this road and take the path on the right that leads into the woods after passing a vineyard. You will come to a tarmac road.
(1) Turn right. Ignore the dirt track that branches off to the right. The road climbs slightly. Shortly after the top of the hill, take a path on the left that descends into the woods along a row of barbed wire, just after a marker with the shell of the Way of St James. The path climbs again and passes under a power line.
At the first crossroads, turn right. Follow the main path with your back to the motorway, where you can hear the traffic. When you reach a fork, take the left path until you reach a gravel road.
(2) Leave theGR® and head towards the group of houses (known as La Bévinière). At the crossroads (with a pond opposite), turn left at the corner of a recent house. Continue along the tarmac road. You will come to another road that crosses the first one perpendicularly. Turn left and then immediately right.
(3) Cross an old railway line that has been converted into a hiking trail (the Voie des Escarbilles) then cross the D127 road , taking care to watch out for traffic. Continue straight ahead on the path opposite. Leave the path on the right that leads back to the road and continue along a vineyard.
(4) Enter the woods, still on the same dirt track. At the first crossroads, continue straight ahead. Then take the first path on the right. 100 metres further on, at a fork, leave the path on the left and continue straight ahead. 300 metres further on, at a fork, turn sharply left. Continue straight ahead. Walk alongside a vineyard located in a large clearing. Follow the main path.
At a junction of dirt tracks, turn left with your back to the clearing and the vineyard. Pass through some undergrowth and you will come out into a large clearing with a wooden picnic table at the nearby junction.
(5) Turn right onto a stony path. When this path turns right (after about 600 metres), leave it and follow a narrower dirt track.
(6) You will come to a fountain on the right-hand side of the path. The path narrows; continue straight ahead for a few metres, then turn right and you will come to a fork. Continue left until you reach a crossroads with four paths.
(7) Take the path on the right. Continue along the stony path. When you reach a highly visible power line with concrete poles, turn left onto the path to La Sablière and the D127 road.
(8) Turn left onto the road. Continue for a few dozen metres, then turn right onto Chemin du Moulin. Descend into a small valley and cross the old railway line again, this time over a stone bridge. At the bottom of the valley, pass another fountain with a basin. The road turns right and passes the ruins of a water mill.
Turn left onto the cement path (Chemin de la Fontaine). The path widens and runs alongside the fence of a hunting reserve on the left. Continue to the Lanterne des Morts and the church (S/E).
