Tugby and Keythorpe walks

This lengthy Leicestershire walk visits the rolling landscape to the south-east of Tugby to reach the village of Hallaton. The route turns west following the Leicestershire Round footpath to Glooston from where a return to the starts is made through Noseley and Rolleston. The walk follows generally well-marked paths and bridleways.

A linear Leicestershire walk which uses paths and bridleways to explore the countryside to the south and east of the Billesdon. Return to the start can be made using Centrebus route 747 which has a regular service between Skeffington and Billesdon.

This circular walk to the east of Leicester follows a section of the Leicestershire Round. The walk visits the villages of Somerby, Thorpe Satchville, Owston and, of course, Twyford.

A pleasant amble through the Leicestershire countryside that lies to the south of Countesthorpe. The route visits the village of Peatling Magna before heading north back to the start.

This walk is about 5.5 miles long, starting and ending at the village of Hoby. There are fine views across the undulating Leicestershire countryside from the elevated ground near Ragdale Hall. The route and footpaths are well maintained with visible waymarkers and only a few stiles. Most paths are across crop or pasture fields but note some fields may contain bullocks depending on the time of year.

This Leicestershire walk explores the area to the west and north of the village of Croft, which lies to the south-east of Leicester. The walk uses paths and bridleways and a section of road walking to complete the route.

This circular walk in rural Leicestershire climbs two of the county's most popular hills - Old John and Beacon Hill. In addition, the route includes visits to Ulverscroft Priory and the pretty village of Newtown Linford.

My favourite ramble which begins and ends at St Denys Church, Cold Ashby. This is a proper ramble with both hard and soft surfaces and good views from Honey Hill.

A lengthy Northamptonshire walk that explores the countryside to the north-west of Northampton. The route uses a section of the Jurassic Way, the towpath of Grand Union Canal, fields paths and country lanes. Winwick is a small rural community of some 40 souls, according to their website, situated off the A428 north of West Haddon and west of Northampton.

This walk follows the River Welland firstly along Torpel Way then crossing close to Stamford and returning along other bank. This is a lovely walk in late April/early May. Look out for fields of cowslips on the left of the path. Bird life associated with river can be seen.

Lovely walk from The Bertie Arms in Uffington to Burghley House, returning via the river Welland.

Enjoy the open views over farmland in East Northamptonshire and view parts of RAF Molesworth (from a distance).

This trail takes you from Rugby train station to the village of Clifton upon Dunsmore following a section of the Oxford Canal and Wilmcote the Shakespeare Avon Way. Sample a different side of Rugby, with an amble along the Avon Valley through peace and quiet to the village of Clifton-upon-Dunsmore.

A lengthy Leicestershire walk in the north west of the county. The walk visits a number of historic villages using paths, lanes and a section of old railway line. There are some opportunities for refreshments during the walk.

A lovely walk starting in the market town of Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Leading into the quiet countryside with mosty well-kept paths to Car Colston, where you can have a well-deserved refreshing drink in a dog friendly pub, before heading back to Bingham.

A pleasant and easy walk in Nottinghamshire encompassing tree-side tracks, open fields, the River Trent, Clifton Village and a farm.

This is an interesting, varied, countryside circular walk, taking you through three historic villages and ending at a lovely traditional pub.

Taking in the road walking along the A45 but with nice views of rolling countryside, a saunter along the Grand Union, (there's a memorial bench under the A45 to rest and lunch and keep dry), and then heading off the canal towards the village of Dodford with a Grade 1 listed church to visit. Parking at the village hall or opposite the church.

A nice route around the perimeter of this Severn Trent reservoir. Start and end at the car park - there are charges, but not unreasonable. A small detour brings you to the trig-point on Hensborough Hill (see map). The route is suitable for walking or cycling. There are a couple of stretches where there is a steep climb / descent, so it might not be suitable for those with accessibility needs; however the straight dog-legged section of path to the east of the reservoir runs along a dam wall with a wide footpath and absolutely no gradient. There's also a small cafe in the visitors hub -check their website for opening times of both the park & visitor hub. Dogs are not allowed on the circular Reservoir Trail but can use the Country Park and Hensborough Trail. Find more information on the Severn Trent reservoir website

A short walk on the outskirts of England's most interesting inland port. Incorporating the first lock on the Trent and Mersey Canal, The River Derwent, just before it meets the River Trent, and a chance to see lots of varied wildlife and historic architecture.

Great easy walk from the center of Nottingham to view the green spaces of Wollaton Park and the University of Nottingham then spot Robin Hood on the way back at Nottingham Castle.

Lovely circular route on paths, bridleways and canal.

This is a good walk at any time but really good in spring when the bluebells are out in Badby Woods and butterflies are exploring the hedgerows. The route passes through some scenic Northamptonshire villages and includes small stretches of the Nene and Knightley Ways.

A nice, short walk across the countryside in Long Bennington just off the A1.

A Lincolnshire walk that explores the parkland and surroundings of Culverthorpe Hall using some of the many local footpaths and also some of the "Stepping Out" paths set up by North Kesteven District Council.

This circular walk starts at The Kings Head, near Napton on the A425 where you can obtain refreshments. The route soon joins The Millennium Way along the Oxford canal then across flat farmland & open countryside, turning south to follow the Grand Union Canal and Oxford Canal providing a feast for those interested in narrow boats and history of our canal network. This circular walk incorporates two idyllic villages, quiet country lanes, pleasant woodland, open countryside, and an interesting church at Hellidon. A small section of the walk crosses Hellidon Lakes Golf Course, so extra care should be taken near the fairways. This is arguably one of our most scenic walks. A Warwickshire walk full of interest. The route passes a restored windmill, follows two sections of canal and visits the summit of Beacon Hill which offers good views across the surrounding countryside.

A short circular walk near Napton. Wonderful views and the famous Napton Windmill. For over half the walk you enjoy a delightful section of the Millenium Way. The way is clearly signed with our distinctive black and white waymarkers. This is walk 14 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

This delightful circular walk starts from The Hollybush public house in Priors Marston. It mostly goes across flat farmland and passing through splendid woodland. There are only a few inclines. This is walk 22 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

This is a short urban walk around the centre of Ilkeston which traces the connections of the town to the Pentrich Rising of 1817. In the early 1800s Ilkeston was a village of 2000 people. William Felkin, born here in 1795, a framework knitter or stockinger, became mayor of Nottingham and a respected historian. He recalled that ‘the streets were dirty and unpaved’ and ‘noted the ‘squalid wretchedness of their abodes’, many ‘little better than huts inside or outside.This is Walk 23 of The Pentrich Revolution Walks.
