Description

(S)To start the walk go south along Main Street, with St Andrew's Church on your right. Continue along the road that leads to Peatling Magna past the left and right-hand bends. At the second left-hand bend take Austrey Lane, which is on your right.

(1)Continue along Austrey Lane. When you reach a field aim for the furthest point away, go through a gate to join a narrow enclosed footpath. It finishes with another gate. Go left with the hedgerow on your left-hand side. Walk straight ahead along this well-marked footpath through several fields which will take you to the right-hand side of Westdale Farm.

(2)Go along the driveway, past the farm and into the field straight ahead. Follow the hedgerow and then take the left-hand bridleway. Continue along the well-defined track until you reach Bambury Farm and immediately afterwards a farm track. Turn right along it and very soon turn left onto a wide grassy track and walk along this until you reach a section of the Leicestershire Round off to the left, which will take you into Peatling Magna.

(3)When you reach the road, turn left and go past 'The Cock Inn' and you will find the footpath on the edge of the village, just past the telephone box (now a library) on the left hand side of the road (grid ref. SP593927). The path goes diagonally to the right and is straightforward apart from one kink to the left and later on watch out for a yellow post indicating the path goes off diagonally to the left.

(4)This path will take you to a road (grid ref. SP588947). Turn left and walk along the road, passing Austrey Lane on your left. Continue along the lane back into the centre of Countesthorpe.(E)

Route could have told us how many styles to go over & identify where they are. Countesthorpe to Peatling Magna excellent route description. Peatling Magna back to Countesthorpe rather vague, please add more information/ detail, especially as that is where all the styles are. The paper map definitely needs this extra information. We'd never used the map app & had to download it in the middle of a field to find our way!! Thank you. We will use your maps again. X🙂

Pleasant walk mainly through fields but easy to follow. Best as a summer walk as the fields were already a bit muddy following harvest. The instructions were good except for a left turn off the main path where the Leicestershire Round turns down towards Peatling. This turn could be missed as it was quite overgrown.

A nice walk through the south Leicestershire countryside but incredibly muddy, at some points we were almost wading through the mud in the farmers fields. Also note that the footpath leading upto the link with the Leicestershire Round seems to be used by green laners which also contributed to the muddiness and was difficult to pass. In all an average walk which probably be a lot more enjoyable in the summer months.

Very nice, traditionally rural, walk. Some areas beautiful with wild flowers and butterflies. Well signposted.

Instructions good; only a couple of places where they could have been clearer.

Good walk with the dog, very muddy, one field had been ploughed which would make it a little more difficult for older people to cross, we all enjoyed it and stopped at the cock inn for a drink and to wash our boots, thank goodness for that pub. Did have to go through a field that said there could be a bull in it, however we didn’t see any 😄
Came back along the main road as unfortunately didn’t have enough time because of the dark, but we walked over 6 and ahalf miles in the end, we lots of nice views and lots of country air.
We Would defiantly do it again..
