Short but interesting walk from Tudor Queen, Spalding Lincolnshire along New River Drove (track) to join the River Welland opposite the sailing club, then walking upstream over A1175 and eventually returning via tracks.

Description of the walk

Start: Tulip Queen, Barrier Bank, Development, Spalding PE12 6FY.

(S/E) From car park of the Tulip Queen go towards garage and walk clockwise around it, Follow road to left and at T junction left again keeping on the right hand side of road. At the roundabout go anticlockwise and then carefully follow the A1175 for 150 m.

(1) Turn right and drop down onto pebbled track for about 1.4 km to reach the River Welland.

(2) At River Welland opposite the sailing club turn sharp left to follow the river Welled approximately 2 km to reach the A1175,

(3) There are two alternatives: 1) to go through gate to the A1175 and walk a short distance to the left and carefully cross this busy road and descend slip track to dyke on the river Welland. 2) If dry you can carefully descend to path which goes under the A1175 and then ascend back onto dyke. Continue to walk along the dyke for about 350 m.

(4) Turn left and descend to track and walk about 500 m to junction.

(5) Turn left at the junction and return to the A1175, carefully cross over and then carefully walk to the roundabout and turn left. follow the road then back to the car park at the Tulip Queen (S/E).

Notes

Walking boots.
When walking on the A1175 recommend single file and hi visibility jacket for leading when starting and at the back when returning.

Parking at Tulip Queen it is recommended that the walk leader asks the Tulip Queen that it is acceptable to park there, idealy reserving a table for a drink or meal. Tel: 01775 302320
