Moulton Road Circular via Whaplode

This is a delightful walk, especially when footpaths are muddy; it is all on hard surface on minor roads. Leaving The Swan in Moulton, a short visit to the tallest windmill in UK, before continuing along B1357 and then on minor roads across open fenland going south. Eventually recrossing B1357 on minor roads going north to Whaplode, eventually returning to Moulton.

Notes

History of Moulton Spalding

Moulton, in Lincolnshire's South Holland district, boasts a history stretching back to the early medieval era. Originally named "Mula Tun" (meaning "the settlement of Mula"), it predates the Norman Conquest and has been shared by Norman landowners since the Domesday Book of 1086. The de Moulton family has played an important part locally and nationally. Remnants of Moulton Castle mark its past, and John Harrox’s contributions are remembered through the ongoing Moulton Harrox Educational Foundation, which benefits youth education in the area.
