Description of the walk

Park either on Place de Monti (but spaces are limited) or in the bend a little further down near the cemetery. Marker 478 indicating theGR®51and the start of the hike is just in front of the church.

(S/E) Start climbing the stairs. Cross the hamlet towards Sainte-Agnès.

(1) At a fork (not shown on the IGN map) marked by an iron cross and a sign pointing left to "les balcons de la Côte d'Azur", take the track on the left and immediately take the small path that runs alongside it on the right-hand side, higher up. The path climbs gently through the woods to reach a road a little further on, which leads to the houses a little higher up.

(2) At the intersection, continue straight ahead (south) to marker 477. Then turn right and continue towards the village of Sainte-Agnès.

(3) Be careful here, just before the Cabrolles ravine, the path has collapsed and the hole is covered with a tarpaulin.
You will need to climb down a little to reach the path just below, then climb back up a few metres further on the GR®. Cross the small stream and continue climbing up to La Virette and its ruins.

(4) At La Virette (marker 476), continue to the right (west-southwest) towards Sainte-Agnès. Further on, take a footbridge.

(5) Further on, walk alongside a water treatment plant. You will arrive at the chapel at the entrance to the village (marker 440).

(6) Here, turn right onto the Col des Banquettes road and continue for a few hundred metres.

(7) At marker 441, head towards Peyre Grosse and Pointe du Siricocca by turning off the road to your right. The direction of Siriccoca is now very easy to follow and is indicated on all the markers you will come across, from 442 to 446. After a long walk and a winding climb, you will reach the Col de Verroux.

(8) Marker 446 indicates Pointe du Siricocca on your right: head in this direction (south-southwest) and climb up the rocks on the military road to finally reach the summit.

(9) Descend via the same path to the Col de Verroux.

(8) Back at the pass and marker 446, head towards Col de Castillon. First descend eastwards. Turn right (south) and descend more steeply with hairpin bends.

(10) At marker 447, head south towards the hamlet of Monti. Cross two tracks in succession and continue descending south-east. Pass under a high-voltage power line, then turn left onto a path that becomes a little more uneven (watch your step).

(11) The path leads to a track at marker 492. Follow it to the right towards Col de Rencurel. Cross the pass and continue towards Monti.

(12) At marker 493, turn right and go through a gate indicating the presence of livestock and their guard dogs. Continue downhill, heading south-east.

(13) Turn left and zigzag down through the fruit trees to come out a little lower down on theGR®51, which you took on the way up.

(2) Follow theGR® to the left and, taking the opposite route to the one you took on the way there, return to Monti (S/E).

Notes

Good hiking boots are recommended, especially on the military road just before reaching the summit of Siricocca.

There are numerous streams along the route. I drank from them several times, but their potability is unknown.

Worth a visit

(4) The path leading to the Borrigo Waterfall has been closed since 2008 due to a landslide: please respect the closure.

(6) If you are not familiar with it, you can take a short detour to the magnificent village of Sainte-Agnès, the highest coastal village in Europe.

(9) Breathtaking view from the top of Siricocca.

Hello, I am preparing for the GR20 this summer. A very pleasant hike, with beautiful trails, a few nice little climbs and a beautiful, fairly steep descent. The view from Pointe Siricocca is well worth the effort.

This route can be completed in 4 hours without too much effort, covering around 15 km. A large part of the hike consists of walking along one side of the mountain and then the other, with similar landscapes. It's a shame not to pass through the village of Saint Anne. There is a superb viewpoint at point 9, which is ideal for a stop.
The elevation gain is not particularly difficult for experienced hikers, but there are quite a few rocky paths towards the end, so watch your ankles. Overall, a good hike.

We did it at the end of November, which is definitely the best time to do this hike, as we were the only ones on the trail, the temperature was (unusually) pleasant, and the autumn colours were stunning!
For the more athletic among you, the circular route can be completed in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
The best picnic spot is at the top of Pointe Siricocca (or in a clearing after the footbridge).
It is classified as difficult, probably because of its length/elevation gain, as there are no major difficulties apart from this steep descent (marker 447) with a few loose stones.

A very pleasant, fairly easy route, except for the last section, mainly between markers 12 and 13: the path is very steep going downhill, with lots of stones rolling underfoot: be careful not to fall!

I couldn't complete the entire route because I left too late. I continued a little past Sainte-Agnès and then turned back.
I will do this route again.
I wanted to mention that in (3) the landslide before the Cabrolles ravine has been contained by a new retaining wall.
The path is now passable again by walking on the wall.
