Departure from the village of Castellar. You can park in front of the school or in the cemetery car park.
(S/E) Head north-east up the road, pass a small chapel and turn right to reach the cemetery. Continue along this small road which climbs steeply north-east until you reach a junction (altitude 418).
(1) Turn left onto the concrete road. Drive slowly, it's steep! Little by little, the view opens up behind you with the village of Castellar, Cap Martin and the sea. Continue on this track to Col Saint-Bernard (769m).
(2) Just below Col Saint Bernard, take the path that climbs up to the right towards the east (yellow markings). Cross the Mourga terraces and pass behind the ruins to join theGR®52. Follow theGR® towards the south-east. Then join a track and continue on it to the right until you reach a large sheepfold.
(3) Continue on theGR® on the left, pass under the high-voltage line and reach the flat area at the ruins of Vieux Castellar (851m).
(4) The ascent of the Col du Berceau really begins here. The path is a little steeper and more rugged. Leave the fork for the Pas de la Corne on your left.
(5) At the Col du Berceau, climb left up a well-marked trail, with the help of a few cairns, to the Cime de Restaud (1,148 m) for a panoramic view.
(6) Retrace your steps back to the pass.
(5) Head south-west to climb Roc de l'Orméa (1,132 m). The trail is fairly obvious.
(7) Return to the pass.
(5) Head south downhill with the GR®. Be careful, it is quite steep with very loose stones. It becomes easier when you reach the forest, then an intersection.
(8) Continue straight ahead on theGR®52towards Plan du Lion (720m, a small grassy area above the hill). Continue straight ahead through the charred trees that fell victim to the fires of summer 2015.
(9) At the signpost at Plan de Leuze, take the path on the left (east) to climb Mont Carpano (772m). Retrace your steps.
(9) Descend southwards to the barns of Saint-Paul. The end is a little steep.
(10) Take the track on the right and stay on it to return to the village of Castellar. Cross the entire area that was burned down in the summer of 2015... The track then turns into a road and ends just behind the school for a final short climb to the car park (S/E).
