Park in the centre of Theys, in one of the two car parks before the town hall, at the first junction in the village.
(S/E) From the car park in Theys, head up towards the church and the town hall, then continue to the left along the Col du Barioz road (D280) for about 1 km.
(1) As you leave the village (road sign), at a right-hand bend, leave the road and take a track that climbs straight up towards a mobile phone mast, visible higher up the slope.
(2) At the mast, join a small tarmac road and follow it to the left until it ends, after it has turned into a wide track.
(3) At the ‘Côte Biron’ sign, turn right towards La Villette onto a level track which becomes a small road, continuing in the same general direction. Pass through the hamlets of Les Adrets, then La Villette and finally Les Bruns, staying on the same side of the valley, above the Col du Barioz road.
(4) On leaving the hamlet of Les Bruns, leave the small road – as it descends to the right – and take the main track which continues straight on, running alongside a wetland area on your right: the Marais des Bruns. Turn right to reach the hamlet of Les Vincents and rejoin the Col du Barioz road.
(5) Follow it up to the left for about 100 metres, passing a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes on your left. Almost directly opposite, a tarmac track branches off, heading up towards the opposite slope. Follow it round two bends – first to the left, then to the right – until you reach a path climbing straight up the slope between two hedges. This joins a small tarmac road.
(6) Take this small road to the right to begin the return journey to Theys, staying on the same side of the slope the whole way, above the Col du Barioz road.
(7) Leave this small road at its first bend, after only about 200 metres, and take a path on the right that descends steeply. (It is possible to stay on the small road to cross the Chaboud and rejoin the route described in the next hamlet, l’Envers). The track joins a tarmac road at the Belle Étoile farm (signposted). Follow this gently sloping tarmac road, continuing in the same general direction (south-west), until you reach the hamlet of Malbuisson, above Theys.
(8) Continue in the same direction; the road descends steeply in a right-hand bend. Cross the D280 to enter the old town of Theys via Rue du Merdaret, which takes you back to the church, from where you can reach the car park 100 metres further on (S/E).
