Park in the Waldparkplatz Ruttibuck car park, 12 km from the border (Marckolsheim). To reach the car park, turn right after the Rhine, Sasbach/Jechtingen/Bischoffingen/Oberrottweil. At the exit of the town towards Oberbergen, a sign indicates Waldparkplatz, opposite a swimming pool sign (Schwimmbad). Follow the steep road for about 1 km. The small car park is opposite a calvary and vineyards. Unfortunately, there is no sign.
(1) Ignore the road on the left and follow the path that climbs alongside the vineyards: it is quite steep but short. The path leads to a shelter with a view of the vineyards and, beyond, Alsace and the Vosges mountains.
(2) Continue uphill and, via a section of road, reach the multi-directional crossroads at Adlerhorst.
(3) Ignore the steep path to Totenkopf; apart from the Neunlinenturm tower, the climb is not worth the effort.
After a few metres to the right, the Herrenberg trail is below, to the left, heading east.
(4) Follow the path to its end. A few trees block the way, but this is no problem. At the end of the path, continue in the same direction towards Vogelgesangpass along a beautiful flat path. You will reach a crossroads with a sign for Hasenbeinmatte.
(5) Take the path that descends to the right, continue on the path towards Sautalweg and find a narrow path in the loess.
(6) Take this path downhill to the left until you reach the top of Liliental with its giant sequoias and other trees.
(7) Head towards Fasanenweg and walk along the almost flat path until you reach the Fasanenweg crossroads.
(8) Here you have two options:
- at the end of the path, take the road that goes uphill,
- or, following the route on the map, take the Hohlgasse path and continue to the crossroads you passed on the way there, the one with several directions to Adlerhorst.
(3) Turn left and retrace your steps to return to the Waldparkplatz Ruttibuck car park (S/E).
