Start from the Talloires tennis/mini golf car park (just below the roundabout that leads to the village centre).
(S/E) Walk up the road for a few dozen metres (towards Annecy) and take the tarmac road that climbs up on the right-hand side (Route du Vivier). Pass a no-entry sign. At the second no-entry sign, take the stony mule track that climbs quite steeply to the left. Pass a turn-off on the right and you will reach another junction about 50 metres further on.
(1) Turn right for a round trip to the Angon Waterfall. The narrow path, which overlooks a deep ravine, is impressive but very safe. Be careful of slippery stones, which are worn smooth by foot traffic and damp; avoid when there are a lot of people. You will pass under a stalagmitic pillar over which the first waterfall flows.
(2) The path ends at a viewpoint overlooking the impressive waterfall in a very narrow chasm. Turn back.
(1) Take the original path again, turning right and following the signs to "Pont des Fées". You will pass a small cliff that serves as a family climbing school.
(3) The Pont des Fées bridge crosses over the turbulent Nant d'Oy stream with its giant potholes. Continue along the path signposted towards Rovagny. In Rovagny, follow the road, veering to the left until you reach an intersection (calvary). Turn left and walk about 20 metres to reach a wash house.
(4) Turn right onto the narrow, inconspicuous path (gravel at the start) at the corner of the wash house. When you reach the D42, turn right and follow it for 150 metres.
(5) At the edge of the D42, find the start of a very inconspicuous path to the left in a small wood. As it is closed by a barbed wire gate, it could be mistaken for the entrance to a meadow. This is not the case, as evidenced by the sign, slightly hidden by the trees, Chemin de la Pricaz - Col de la Forclaz. Climb this path, keeping to the right. Join a tarmac forest road and follow it downhill to the left.
(6) A few metres before the end of the tarmac, take a discreet path that climbs at a right angle to the right and joins the IGN map route (incorrect at this point). There are no signs or markings, but the path is very clear and there is no risk of getting lost. It is a pleasant climb in the shade. The path joins a forest road that climbs gently.
(7) Leave the forest track, which descends to the left, and continue climbing straight ahead. A pleasant, steady path, not too difficult, except for the last 150 metres, which are a little more challenging. You remain in the shade throughout the climb, but there are no views.
(8) As you leave the forest, you come out onto the vast cirque of the Chalet de l'Aulp, dominated by the Tournette rock, at the foot of which lies a vast mountain pasture. Impressive views of the lake and mountains.
Climb up to the chalet restaurant and turn left, following the signs for Chalet des Crottes / Col des Nantets (white and redGR® markings). Follow the forest track and then the path, which winds downhill, then climbs a little and passes a group of chalets marked "Maison du Carabinier".
(9) At the crossroads, descend to the left. The descent is less pleasant than the ascent. There are quite a few crossroads, but the signposting is clear and abundant. The path quickly joins a forest road.
(10) At a cairn, leave the forest road and take a path that descends to the left. Further down, cross the forest road and, at a cairn, continue on the path that descends to the right and rejoins the forest road.
(11) At a cairn and an isolated white and red marker, leave the forest road and take a path that descends to the right, leading to a crossroads.
(12) Follow the signs for Talloires/La Sauffaz to the left.
(13) At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead along the forest road.
(14) Cross another forest road and continue straight ahead, following the signs for La Sauffaz. Once you reach the hamlet, continue along the tarmac road and cross Vérel until you reach the D42. Cross the road and take the path opposite, signposted Cascade d'Angon/Pont des Fées, and join the uphill path just before the climbing school.
(1) Take the same route back to return to the starting point (S/E).
