(S/E) Departure from the port of La Couarde-sur-Mer. Head north-west along the edge of the salt marshes.
(1) After walking for 1 km, continue to the right on the cycle path that crosses the salt marshes towards Loix-en-Ré.
(2) At the exit of the island's last tide mill, turn right towards the small port and then cross the port car park to join and follow the cycle path. Pass Pointe du Cul d'Ane.
(3) After about 600 m, leave the cycle path and take the footpath behind the salt marshes to continue along the dyke towards Pointe du Grouin and its fort.
(4) At the lifeguard hut, go to the beach to walk around the point.
(5) At Fort du Grouin, continue along the coastal path heading due west. Pass Pas de la Contre-Ordre, Pas de la Vette, Pas des Gaudins and Pas Malheureux on your right.
(6) At Pas du Préau, continue along the earthen dyke to its end (opposite Bois de Trousse-Chemise and Fier d'Ars) and carry on.
(7) At Pointe du Croc, turn around.
(6) Back at the Pas du Préau car park, turn right and follow the dyke to the end of the salt marshes.
(8) At the first intersection, leave the dyke and continue straight on to the equestrian centre. Leave it on your right and continue along the dirt track.
(9) At a place called L'Oiselière, follow the street of the same name, which continues as Rue de la Place. Then walk along Place du Marché.
(10) In the town centre, head towards the Port de Loix via Rue Communale and then Rue de l'Abbaye. Cross the dam and follow the same route back to the starting point (S/E).
