Stithians Reservoir Circular, Cornwall

Start : Watersports Center, (TR16 6NW) Grid Ref. SW 708 369

(S/E) From the watersports center head South West, handrailing the edge of the Reservoir on your left-hand side.

(1) After 630m or so, the designated path will take you through a wooded area with some bushes and trees and over a stream via a wooden bridge. Carry on walking with the reservoir on your left hand before heading out South-West after 990m.

(2) The designated path will lead to the signage "Bird Sanctuary" (do not disturb). Please follow, the signage out through the gate and onto the track past some houses, entering the small village of "Penmarth".

(3) At the main road turn left (South-East), you will be walking along the road for 1.25 Km approx, observe the highway code, and face oncoming traffic. The Reservoir is out of sight for approx 1 Km and then appears on both sides of the road. A bird hide is located on the lake's edge. Cross over the causeway and enter the gate.

(4)Now back on the Reservoir path, handrail for a further 1.25 Km approx.

(5) Approaching the South-West side of the Dam, climb over the stile and walk across the top of the Dam. At the Dam Car park, turn left (North-West) continuing handrailing the waters edge path for approx 1.5 Km.

(6) Continue following the designated path with the reservoir on your left to the main road (500m approx).

(7) At the junction of the path and road, be mindful of traffic, turn left (South-West) across another causeway, turn left by the public house, and onto the Watersports center, the starting point. (S/E)

Note : This walk could be walked in either direction

Dog policy : Dogs are permitted but must be kept under control.

Terrain :
Some parts of this walk are accessible for wheelchairs, however, the stile at the Dam, and some of the gates, would not permit the full circular route.
Be mindful of the water's edge, near the Dam at waypoint (6) it gets very deep very quickly.

Transport :
There is an infrequent bus service/route, that passes the Water Sports Center at the start, walkers will need to confirm the timings of the bus for drop off and allow sufficient time to walk the route. There is NO bus service to the Dam Car park.
