Description of the walk

The walk starts at Tolskith Hill, Illogan Highway. Parking may be an issue, but a possibility of off-street parking nearby. This route is created for users of Public Transport.

An alternative option for this route. With the landlord's permission, park at the Countryman Inn (E); the car park is adjacent to the footpath (5). If you are a traveler, camper/motorhome enthusiast, the Inn is equally a 'Pub stopover'.

The walk will follow (S/E) as described.

(S/E) Heading down the lane, known as Tolskithy Lane NW, passing some old miners' cottages and the remains of an old chapel (through steel gate and on private property) near the bottom of the hill.

(1) Turning right and heading SE to where the road meets the track and bear left between storage units and up granite steps to the main road.

(2) Crossing the road. This is a busy road. Cross with care, or use the traffic lights as a crossing point to the left 75m. To the right is an old Toll house. See plaque on the wall. Turn left into Blowing House and follow the road. Continue along the road through the tunnel, entering Carn Brea, at the junction (Option to see: about 50m down the road to stream on the right, look upstream 10m plaque - Holy Well of St Euny (B), turn right up the hill and W. ( Lookout for; near to the last house on the right see old metal 'crowned' pipe; Redruth had the first house illuminated by gas, the pipe reminents of gas street lighting). At the top of the hill, turn Left onto S along the old mining track as the path rises out of a wooded area.

(3) At the top of the rise, there are three prominent paths: sharp left, left, and straight on, a small path rises from the left. Continue straight on S. This will lead to some more remote houses and a crossroad (track). Continue straight on (This section could get a little muddy in places) approaching the houses and disused mine workings, which is worth exploring.

(4) At Carnkie village, turn right on the main road and follow the road 1 km to Piece and the Countryman Inn.

(5) To the right of the Inn, climb over the stile and handrail the farm field to the next stile, following the designated route. (Should the farmer have a crop and not yet made the route clear). Walk straight from the stile towards the mining spoil heap and then towards the hedge steps.

(6) The hedge steps, stepping down from the field to the track, require stepping on protruding granite stones which stick out from the wall. Be mindful of wet stone and balance. The route is left, then right to another stile with a metal gate. The next field crossing, if the track is not too clear, handrail the metal fence to the opposite wall. The stile is similar to a cattle grid, but granite beams take care when wet. Turn right and continue on the path. By the white house, see the White Cross, a waymark from the past. Continue down the hill.

(7) Turning right, past an old chimney, keeping with the made-up path as it bears left towards the industrial estate.

(8) Leave the track N and go left over the railway bridge, cross the road at the traffic light, at the end of Druid's Road, turn right E.

(9) Walking along the pavement to the traffic light/crossing to the start or Bus stop. (S/E)
