Description of the walk

Start : Stithians Dam car park, Cornwall UK (TR16 6NW). Grid ref. SW 71880 36476, W3W sinkhole.passively.scar

(S/E) Leave the car park, and turn right walking in a South-Easterly direction, walking towards the water treatment works. Pick up the designated footpath, after some 200m on your left. Follow the path, which will meet up with the road, this is an "on then off" the road path, be mindful of the traffic.

(1) Stay on the designated track. Continue on for 460m, until the path splits, and take the left-hand, Northerly track to a road (Hendra Road) through some farm gates.

(2) Crossing the main country road, at Hendra and continue in the Northerly direction for 200m approx.
There are hedge stiles to negotiate, which can be overgrown and hard to see. Turn right on a South-Easterly direction and come out of the field, return to the main road (Hendra Road) towards the church. At the main road turn left heading East past the Church.

As the road turns to a South-South Easterly direction, turn left (North-East) towards "Stithians Rugby Football Club (RFC), playing fields".

(3) At the RFC, pick up the designated path on the right (East) and follow for 1.5 Km approx. (dogs on leads and only on the path). Follow on down and across a stream turning right (South-East) 500m to Foundry Road .

(4) At Foundry Road turn left (North-East) for 100m picking up the designated path in the right (East-North-East direction), until meeting the country track turning right (South-East). Follow the track over the River Kennall, past an old mill, follow the tree line to the left-hand bend, then pick up the designated footpath again. Be mindful that at this point the path can be awkward to follow.

This is a permitted footpath walk, and as such has country path waymarkers. However, due to maintenance/upkeep, the signage could be missing or simply overgrown by vegetation, this also applies to the footpaths and country wall Stiles.

(5) From the footpath pick up the country track turning right (South-West) direction. The track ends and becomes a footpath, continuing meeting with Treonning Road

(6) At Tregonning Road turn right (North-West direction) for 500m approx. and turn left back onto the designated path which joins becomes a track. Meeting up with a North to South road junction. At this point go right then left for 20m approx. then follow in a Westerly direction.

(7) The route goes through farmland, the farmer has a track leading down to the ford, and signage leads through a wooded area that is enclosed (so advise staying with the farm track and picking up the route further on).

Continue on a Westerly direction, reminder, the signage and wall stiles can be obscured by the overgrowth, but they are there. Finally walking through a farm yard and onto a road. Turn left uphill for 100m approx.

(8) To a junction with a lane, turn right and follow down through some remote house, keeping right and then up the hill.

(9) The road turns to a track. Continue up the hill (North-West) leading to the Dam out onto an access road for the water treatment plant, past the original path at the start, and return to the Dam Car Park. (S/E)
